As a seasoned gamer who has been playing Pokemon since its inception in the 90s, I must say that the recent D20-inspired Onix fan art has truly caught my eye and tickled my nostalgia bone. With over 3,400 upvotes, it’s clear that this creative take on Onix resonates with the community. It’s always fascinating to see how fans can reimagine these beloved creatures in unique ways, breathing fresh life into them.

A devoted Pokemon enthusiast has recently transformed Onix into a D20-inspired version, envisioning the classic creature as if it were crafted from dice. Since the ’90s, the Pokemon community has been captivated by fan art, and this enthusiasm doesn’t appear to wane, as there are now more than 1,000 Pokemon to reinterpret in various styles, with the count continuously growing over the years.

In the classic video games Pokemon Red and Blue, Onix was introduced as a Rock/Ground-type creature. As the series progressed, Onix evolved into Steelix, a Steel/Ground type, through trading while wearing a Metal Coat. While Onix is formidable in battle within the game world, it’s more commonly recognized from its appearances on the Pokemon TV show as one of Brock’s Pokemon. In both the games and the anime, Brock serves as the Gym Leader of Pewter City. However, unlike in the games, where he remains there, in the anime, Brock joins Ash on his adventures soon after they meet, sticking with him for several seasons.

Currently, an artist known as ImPrettyNewHere who is passionate about Pokemon has unveiled their latest work to the community: a unique interpretation of Onix inspired by D20 dice. This innovative design showcases Onix constructed from blue dice, varying from 4 to 20 sides. Although the head remains similar to the original design, the rest of its body has been reimagined, resulting in a highly creative twist on this beloved creature. The fan art created by ImPrettyNewHere was warmly embraced by the community, earning over 3,400 upvotes for the post.

D20-Inspired Onix Pokemon Fan Art

It’s not the first occasion that a fan has come up with fan art depicting an alternate design for Onix. In fact, just last year, a Pokemon enthusiast thoughtfully designed a baby version of Onix, which was portrayed as an adorable stone worm creature named Lithlix.

As a diehard Pokemon fan, I can’t help but be amazed by the creative ingenuity of fellow enthusiasts. Take, for instance, the life-sized Onix plushie that was recently crafted – a staggering 17 feet tall! It might seem tiny compared to the towering Onix we encounter in the games, but the resemblance is uncanny and it’s incredibly cute. Kudos to the fan who brought this adorable giant rock-type Pokemon to life!

In the year 2022, another enthusiast crafted an intriguing trinket resembling the Rock/Ground-type character – a miniature Onix sculpted from crystal. This fan creation was inspired by the Crystal Onix, a special version of the traditional creature that features in episode 87 of the Pokemon TV series.
