Pokemon Fan Art Imagines Human Forms for Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur

A Pokémon artist shared their ideas online for human versions of Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur. The artist explained that these designs follow a particular theme and are part of a bigger project to reimagine all the original 151 Pokémon.

I’ll never forget first laying eyes on Bulbasaur in Pokemon Red and Blue! It was so cool being able to pick it as my very first Grass-type starter – Charmander and Squirtle were great too, but Bulbasaur just clicked with me. Watching it evolve into Ivysaur and then the powerful Venusaur was awesome – I loved how the bulb on its back would slowly bloom! And then in Pokemon X and Y, they gave Venusaur a Mega Evolution that made that plant even bigger! It’s so exciting to see Mega Venusaur back in Pokemon Legends: Z-A as a tough boss you have to battle during the story. It’s a fantastic way to revisit such a classic Pokemon!

Pokemon Fan Artist Depicts Bulbasaur Line With Human Features

It’s no surprise that Bulbasaur, a popular Pokémon featured in many games, has inspired fan art. Recently, a Reddit user named TheGoblinCodex shared their take on what Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur would look like as humans – a style known as ‘gijinka’ – using a high fantasy theme. The artist imagined Bulbasaur as a child in a green kilt, with its signature bulb attached to a wooden backpack and several pouches. Bulbasaur also carries a small walking stick topped with a golden orb. As Bulbasaur evolves into Ivysaur, it gains light green tattoos on its right arm, and the orb on its staff blossoms into a golden flower. The bulb also moves from its back to being held in Ivysaur’s lap.

When reimagined as a human, Venusaur’s signature flower became a floral headdress, and its body was covered in tattoos extending onto part of its face. This style, known as ‘gijinka,’ continues to be a favorite among Pokémon fan artists, who each create unique human-like designs for Pokémon like Regirock. Fans praised TheGoblinCodex’s creative work and the overall design choices.

TheGoblinCodex announced they’re planning artwork featuring the Charmander family, noting Charizard’s widespread popularity with both Pokemon fans and artists. It’s currently unknown when they’ll finish this new fan art project.
