A fan artist on Reddit has come up with Ice-type regional variations for the Shiftry line, envisioning them as a blend of Grass/Ice types rather than their original Grass/Dark ones. Regional forms first appeared in the Pokemon Sun and Moon games, where they introduced alternative versions of familiar creatures like Vulpix, Raichu, Raticate, Golem, and more, based on the unique climates of Alola’s four islands.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but be captivated by the influence Alolan forms, or as they’re now known, Regional forms, have on the creative minds of fan artists. They offer a unique platform for reimagining beloved Pokémon with fresh typings, eye-catching designs, and innovative movesets. The official recognition that environmental factors shape how Pokémon live and evolve lends a sense of authenticity to these fan redesigns, making the concept even more enticing.
In a recent Reddit post, FallinDevast showcased an original artwork featuring a Grass/Ice-type Shiftry, alongside possible regional versions of its pre-evolutions Seedot and Nuzleaf. The new designs conceptualize Shiftry’s line as adapted to a chilly, frigid environment, developing unique characteristics to endure the severe conditions.
Seedot’s usual brown body has been covered with a dense layer of green grass, complete with two small horns on its head for cold protection. Nuzleaf sports a neck lined with thick red fur and a bushy yellow tail, along with a facial mask made of bone similar to those worn by Cubone and Marowak. Lastly, Shiftry dons blue fur across its entire body, boasting a massive skeletal mask that outmatches Nuzleaf’s, glowing eyes, and bony projections on its chest resembling ribs.
Some users noted that the color variations in the artwork could represent seasonal changes: Seedot with a springtime green coat, Nuzleaf sporting autumnal red and yellow fur, and Shiftry’s icy blue mane for winter.
Pokemon Fan Artist Designs Ice-Type Regional Forms for the Shiftry Evolutionary Line
As a skilled artist, FallinDevast is well-known within the fandom community, regularly creating unique regional versions, paradox forms, and alternate evolutions for different Pokemon. Just recently, they came up with fresh paradox forms for Fearow and Feraligatr, envisioning these two characters as dinosaurs.
A different creation they presented to the public was an exceptional depiction of regional versions of Nosepass and Probopass, where these two Pokémon were turned into castle walls and gates, complete with battlements, guards at the gate, and even a drawbridge (or portcullis). Some people even thought that this design would fit perfectly in Galar, given its medieval Western European style.
