As a longtime fan of both Pokemon and Digimon, I have always marveled at the unique ways fans from both fandoms creatively merge their beloved franchises. With that being said, I was utterly captivated when I stumbled upon Reddit user Matratzfratz’s reimagining of Agumon as a Fire-type Pokemon with a complete evolution line.
A devoted fan artist of both Pokémon and Digimon franchises decided to think outside the box in their newest creation. Instead of sticking to Agumon’s original design, they reimagined it as a Fire-type Pokémon, complete with evolutionary stages and type listings. The artist showcased their masterpiece on social media platforms, allowing fans from both universes to appreciate their unique take on these beloved characters.
In the world of Digimon, Agumon serves as the beloved mascot and is a Rookie-level Vaccine Digimon commonly teamed up with Taichi “Tai” Kamiya in the Digimon Adventure anime. Agumon’s abilities include harnessing fire for attacks like Pepper Breath, and it uses its sharp claws as self-defense. Agumon’s hidden power comes to life when confronting Virus Digimon, enabling it to transform into Greymon, MetalGreymon, and WarGreymon. In the acclaimed anime series, Digimon Adventure (known for its exceptional isekai storyline with a child lead), Agumon assists Tai in battling malevolent digital creatures such as Myotismon and Piedmon by assuming these advanced forms.
Through the years, fans have often compared Pokemon and Digimon. A talented fan artist decided to merge these franchises by creating unique pieces of art. On Reddit, a user named Matratzfratz took the fiery Digimon character, Agumon, and gave it a Pokemon-like twist in the r/pokemon subreddit. The Charmander line served as inspiration for their artwork, blending with Agumon, Greymon, and MetalGreymon. Matratzfratz transformed Agumon into Agumander, featuring an orange body, blue eyes, but lacking the hand claws that Agumon originally had. Upon evolution, Agumander transformed into Greymeleon, acquiring its distinctive brown horns and blue stripes across its body. Finally, Greymeleon evolved into Metalzard, sporting blue wings and a metallic helmet. Instead of MetalGreymon’s robotic left arm, Matratzfratz’s Metalzard was equipped with steel claws on both arms instead.
Pokemon Fan Artist Combines Charmander With Agumon
Matratzfratz identified Agumander and Greymeleon as Fire-type Pokemon based on their past artworks. Metalzard was classified as a Pokemon with both Fire and Steel types. No specific moves, abilities, or stats were provided for Agumander’s family. In theory, they would be effective against Grass and Bug Pokemon. However, Metalzard’s dual typing could weaken it against Ground-type opponents like Golem and Rhyperior during a Pokemon battle.
Despite the fact that Digimon hasn’t achieved the same financial heights as Pokémon, this hasn’t deterred fans from blending the two worlds creatively through art. The future is uncertain, but it will be intriguing to see what more the fanbases of these monster-themed universes will come up with next.
