As a devoted Pokémon enthusiast with an artistic flair, I built upon my past creations by transforming a Wii console into a Porygon replica, then took it up a notch with a Porygon2-themed Wii U and a Switch console inspired by the elusive Porygon-Z. I proudly displayed my handcrafted masterpieces, the Porygon2 Wii U and Porygon-Z Switch, and detailed the steps I followed to bring these custom consoles to life.
Originally called “Virtual Pokémon,” Porygon made its debut in both “Pokémon Red” and “Pokémon Blue” as a reward from Celadon City’s renowned Game Corner. This distinctive character, with a crystalline duck-like body in shades of blue and pink, is one of the most easily recognizable figures within the Pokémon universe. In the second and fourth generations, Porygon evolved twice into Porygon2 and Porygon-Z respectively. Although not commonly employed in battles, Porygon can utilize the exclusive moves Conversion and Conversion 2 to change its type from the standard Normal-type. The Porygon line can be discovered in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet once you’ve unlocked the Indigo Disk DLC.
Following the creation of a Wii console shaped like Porygon, a dedicated Pokemon fan built two additional consoles based on the subsequent forms of Porygon. On the r/Pokemon subreddit, content creator BigRig Creates unveiled updates to their original “PorWiigon” system, introducing the “PorWiigon U” and the “Porygon Zwitch” consoles. In a YouTube video, BigRig Creates demonstrated the steps taken to transform a Wii U console into a Porygon2 look-alike, accompanied by a holder for the Porygon-Z Switch. Similar to the PorWiigon system, the PorWiigon U required additional electronic components that were embedded within Porygon2’s pink and blue body. The Wii U console’s interior was painted blue after disassembly, with Porygon2’s chest cavity accommodating the Wii U console horizontally, along with the Wii U GamePad.
Pokemon Fan Makes Custom Porygon2 Wii U and Porygon-Z Switch Consoles
In the course of personalizing the Wii U, BigRig Creates encountered challenges while putting back together the tricky Wii U GamePad following its pink painting, which mirrored Porygon2. Later on, BigRig Creates initiated Pokemon Rumble U, the exclusive Wii U game showcasing Porygon2. Contrastingly, the process was smoother for those owning a Porygon-Z Switch. After creating a 3D-printed face and body for Porygon-Z, BigRig Creates asserted that the Virtual Pokemon’s chest would accommodate the Switch console, as well as a portable USB-C dock to maintain the tablet’s charge. Magnetic rails combined with blue Joy-Con controllers were utilized for its arms, and a desk clamp was attached to keep Porygon-Z stationary.
In the conclusion of their video, BigRig shares clips of Porygon-Z from Pokemon Legends: Arceus in Jubilife Village. As Switch 2 and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are scheduled for release in 2025, it remains to be seen whether a new form of Porygon will emerge, potentially necessitating another custom system creation by BigRig Creates.
