- Despite initial anxieties about the project, fans praised the finished Onix wood carving, leading to artist improvements.
A devotee of Pokémon has unveiled a project where they meticulously sculpted the Pokémon Onix from wooden pieces. The dedicated fan has garnered much appreciation for their craftsmanship, and is utilizing the feedback received to further enhance their work.
In its debut as a Gen 1 Pokemon, Onix remains widely recognized and memorable. Its imposing size and significant role in early battles for players of the first generation games, particularly in Pewter City’s gym, make it stand out to both newcomers and veterans alike. Although Onix’s design may not be as widely beloved as other iconic Pokemon, fans continue to pay tribute to it in unique ways. One such fan showcased their admiration using woodcraft, although they were somewhat unsure about the final product. However, the doubts seem to have been overshadowed by the broader community’s appreciation for this Onix tribute.
Reddit user Ormalll recently posted a picture of their newest wood carving, which depicts the Rock Snake Onix. They detailed the creation process, showing the large block of wood they began with, and how they divided it into smaller cubes to construct the segmented body of Onix. A photo from the side displays the tail of Onix rising behind it, followed by another with the head in place and fully carved. The final image shows the completed Onix, painted in its signature gray color with beady eyes.
Pokemon Community and Artist Build Upon Feedback
In the initial post, Ormalll acknowledges that they believe the piece isn’t their finest creation, and they’ve thought of ways to improve it if given another chance. One aspect they feel needs improvement is the method used to join the parts, as a wire structure might be more suitable. While many fans complimented the work and its creator, a few provided constructive feedback that Ormalll has incorporated. The revised Onix fanart now boasts bolder outlines and additional shading for increased visual depth. So far, the response to the remake has been positive.

As a dedicated Pokémon enthusiast, crafting wood carvings of my favorite pocket monsters has become one of the creative ways I express my passion for this captivating world. Although it’s no walk in the park, with a steady hand and the right tools, I can create pieces that leave other fans in awe within the vibrant Pokémon community.
