As a veteran gamer with over two decades of Pokémon adventures under my belt, I must say, the recent Paradox Grovyle concept by Matratzfratz has truly taken me aback and left me utterly thrilled! The blend of ancient avian aesthetics and the familiar silhouette of Grovyle is a delightful twist that adds a fresh perspective to this beloved Hoenn starter.

A devoted Pokemon artist has maintained a pattern of designing alternative forms for some creatures, this time featuring Grovyle in a “Paradox” version. The artist shared their creation on social media, revealing the new name, type, and shimmering variant of Paradox Grovyle for fellow trainers to admire.

Originally debuting in the games Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, Grovyle is recognized as the Wood Gecko Pokemon. Being the initial evolution of the grass starter Treecko, Grovyle can be acquired by evolving it at level 16. Further advancement to Sceptile occurs at level 36, but Grovyle stands alone among Hoenn starters as a single type Pokemon. As a pure grass-type Pokemon, Grovyle is an agile middle evolution that excels in utilizing moves like Energy Ball and Giga Drain, thanks to its heightened special attack stat. In the games Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players can acquire Grovyle by either catching and evolving a Treecko within the Terarium’s Canyon Biome or by transferring one over from Pokemon HOME.

Despite not being frequently depicted in Pokemon fan art, an artist named Matratzfratz still chose to reimagine the Hoenn starter Grovyle. On the r/pokemon subreddit, they shared their concept of a Paradox Grovyle, which they creatively renamed “Old Wing”. Drawing inspiration from ancient birds, this version of Paradox Grovyle fits with other creatures from Pokemon Scarlet, and its feathered appearance is reminiscent of the Flying-type. Old Wing’s body is covered in brown, yellow, and auburn feathers, maintaining its original pose from official artwork. This reimagined creature was assigned the Flying-type as its only classification, placing it alongside legendary Pokemon like Tornadus. As a result, Old Wing would be resistant to Ground-type attacks but vulnerable to Electric moves such as Thunderbolt and Volt Switch.

In a twist, Paradox Grovyle, designed by Matratzfratz, sports a beak instead of its typical lizard-snout, complete with talons on both hands and feet. To complement Old Wing’s physiology, it was equipped with avian legs. Notably, Matratzfratz had previously transformed Electrode into a Master Ball Mega Evolution form. They also provided a sneak peek of Old Wing’s gleaming form. Essentially, the radiant Paradox Grovyle retained the green and peach color scheme reminiscent of the starter Pokemon from Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, serving as the inspiration for this creation.

Although the artist didn’t provide any additional abilities or actions for Old Wing, as this type of Pokemon is popular among fans, it’s possible that these new-age creatures might still make an appearance in upcoming Pokemon games.
