Pokemon Fan Designs Mega Evolution for Muk

Highlights

  • Muk, a popular Generation 1 Pokemon, does not have an official Mega Evolution, but a fan has created a custom scary version for it.
  • Only 46 out of the 1,025 official Pokemon have Mega Evolutions, leaving room for creative fans to design their own alternate forms.
  • This talented fan has also created custom Mega Evolutions for other Generation 1 Pokemon like Parasect and Dodrio.

As a dedicated gamer and long-time fan of the Pokemon series, I can’t help but be impressed by the creativity and dedication of this talented individual known as _Conehead_. With a deep understanding of the lore and evolutionary tree of Pokemon, they have taken it upon themselves to bring Muk and other Generation 1 Pokemon into the modern era with their own custom Mega Evolutions.

One creative Pokemon enthusiast is coming up with Mega Evolutions for Generation 1 monsters lacking an official one, such as the gooey Muk. Originally appearing from Grimer at level 38, these Pokemon were discovered in the Pokemon Mansion on Cinnabar Island in the classic Pokemon Red and Blue games. Throughout subsequent generations, they continued to slither along, even acquiring colorful Dark/Poison Alolan forms in Pokemon Sun and Moon.

Muk, a beloved character among Pokemon fans, often inspires disturbing fan creations, where it is depicted as a Gas/Rock or Poison/Water type. Despite this popularity, Muk hasn’t been given an official Mega Evolution in the Pokemon series yet. Mega Evolutions are unique forms that appeared for the first time in Pokemon X and Y. These evolutions are not permanent and can only be activated during a battle when the Pokemon holds a specific item called a Mega Stone. Unlike regular evolutions, Mega transformations do not require leveling up or using an evolution stone.

Among the 1,025 recognized Pokemon, about 46 of them have a confirmed Mega Evolution, implying that a vast majority remain open for imaginative fans to design unique alternate forms. On Reddit, under the username _Conehead_, an artistically inclined user is showcasing their custom Mega transformations for the first generation Pokemon. Their most recent creation involves Muk, which already has an unsettling appearance as a Sludge Pokemon, being given a more intimidating Mega form reminiscent of aquatic creatures, specifically alligators.

Pokemon Fan Makes Muk Slimier Than Ever With Custom Mega Evolution

The artist provided a diagram of the 151 first generation Pokemon to distinguish between those that have an official Mega Evolution, those unable to undergo one because they aren’t fully evolved, and those for which new Mega forms have been invented. Based on this chart, _Conehead_ has devised unique evolutions for Parasect and Dodrio, the mushroom/insect hybrid Pokemon and the three-headed evolution of Doduo, respectively.

Based on the data from “Conehead”‘s chart, there are 47 Generation 1 Pokemon that theoretically have the potential for a Mega Evolution. This means they still have numerous possibilities for their next unique Pokemon makeover. Currently, the frightening transformation of Muk during its Mega form is particularly noteworthy, as its slobbering mouth seems to sprout jagged teeth, making it even more intimidating towards adversaries. With the Mega Evolution feature coming back in “Pokemon Legends: Z-A,” there’s a chance that an official Mega form for Muk, similar to the fan-designed version, could be introduced.
