Pokemon Fan Gives Yamask Different Versions for Every Pokemon Type

A Pokemon artist created unique designs for Yamask and its evolved form, reimagining them as different types from across the Pokemon world. While keeping some recognizable features, the artist gave each type a clear and distinct look for both Pokemon.

Yamask, often called the Spirit Pokemon, was introduced in the Pokemon Black and White games. Its Pokedex entry describes it as an ancient spirit that roams old ruins. A different version of Yamask, known as Galarian Yamask, appeared in Pokemon Sword and Shield. The original Yamask evolves into Cofagrigus at level 34. Galarian Yamask has a unique evolution requirement: it only evolves into Runerigus if its trainer takes at least 49 damage without being knocked out, then walks under a specific arch in the Galar region.

Dedicated Pokemon Fan Artist Crafts Different Yamask Concepts Based on Each Type

Fans have created art inspired by the Pokémon Yamask before, but one artist took it a step further by reimagining Yamask and its evolution as different elemental types. Lyndorr, an artist on the Pokémon subreddit, shared hand-drawn designs of Yamask paired with various types, always keeping Ghost as a secondary typing. For a Normal-type version, Yamask holds a teddy bear instead of a mask, and its evolution becomes a fan-made Pokémon called Ursarigus – a Normal/Ghost type that combines elements of Ursaring and Banette. Lyndorr continued this pattern with other types, but skipped creating a Ground/Ghost, or pure Ghost-type, version to avoid repeating ideas.

Lyndorr created alternate designs for the Pokémon Yamask, giving each a different object to hold instead of a mask and changing its eye color to fit a new type. These type-based designs extended to Lyndorr’s ideas for Yamask’s evolutions. To maintain consistency, each evolution’s name ended with “-rigus,” but the beginning of the name changed to reflect its type—for instance, the Psychic/Ghost version was called Temperigus, and the Fire/Ghost version was Emberigus. Lyndorr shared the designs and types but didn’t reveal any stats or abilities. Many Pokémon fans responded positively, praising the creativity of the names and designs for each elemental form of Yamask.

Pokemon Fan Artists May Be Busy This Year

The recent fan-art submissions arrived at a busy moment for the Pokemon franchise. Pokemon is celebrating its 30th anniversary on February 27th, and The Pokemon Company has already started promotions, including a commercial during Super Bowl 60 on February 8th. A Pokemon Presents presentation is also expected around the anniversary, though details haven’t been officially announced. Fans are anticipating the release of Pokemon Pokopia and Pokemon Champions in 2026, as well as the launch of the 10th generation of Pokemon games this year. These new games, reportedly called Pokemon Wind(s) and Waves(s) according to leaks, are said to be set in a tropical archipelago.

Because Pokémon like Yamask have been found in many different areas since they were first introduced, there’s a good chance we’ll see the Spirit Pokémon in the next generation of games. While rumors and leaks about the new games are circulating online, it’s still unclear what The Pokémon Company has planned for players this year.
