Pokemon Fan Uses 3,500 Bricks to Build an Incredible LEGO Ho-Oh Sculpture

A skilled Pokémon fan recently built an amazing sculpture of Ho-Oh using more than 3,000 LEGO bricks. Even though official Pokémon LEGO sets are coming out soon, creations like this demonstrate how much fans love these iconic characters.

Ho-Oh, a powerful Fire/Flying-type Legendary Pokémon, holds the distinction of being the first Pokémon from Generation 2 to be unveiled. Fans got their initial glimpse of Ho-Oh in August 1996 through the Japanese magazine CoroCoro, but it wasn’t until the release of Pokémon Gold in 1999 that the legendary bird officially debuted, even appearing on the Game Boy Color game’s cover.

Pokemon Fan Builds Amazing LEGO Ho-Oh Model Ahead of Official Pokemon LEGO Set Reveals

Reddit user TheOfficialGarf shared an impressive sculpture of the Pokémon Ho-Oh on the r/pokemon subreddit on November 25th. Built from approximately 3,500 LEGO bricks and costing around $500 CAD, the sculpture is remarkably detailed. The user also posted the original Pokémon sprite – similar to the one from Generation 3 games – that inspired the build, demonstrating how accurately they recreated the legendary creature.

TheOfficialGarf brought their virtual LEGO creation to life by first designing it in BrickLink Studio and then using the app to generate a parts list. They then ordered all the necessary pieces directly from LEGO’s ‘Pick a Brick’ service. According to TheOfficialGarf, the entire process – from initial design to building the model without instructions – took about four months.

Ho-Oh might not be the first Legendary Pokemon that comes to mind, especially for players new to the series or those who didn’t play the original Pokemon Gold and its remake. However, it’s a significant Pokemon with a long history. Since it first appeared in Generation 2, Ho-Oh has been featured in every Pokemon game, though sometimes it was only available through special events or trades. Most recently, it appeared in the DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, where players could encounter it using a Ho-Oh Treat. Currently, though, Ho-Oh isn’t available in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, though it could be added in future updates or events.

For years, LEGO fans have been impressively building their own Pokemon creations, as that was the only way to combine their passion for both LEGO and Pokemon. However, that’s about to change. LEGO announced a partnership with The Pokemon Company earlier this year to create official Pokemon LEGO sets. Although the announcement was made eight months ago, and the first sets are expected in 2026, LEGO and Pokemon haven’t yet revealed what those sets will look like.

Okay, so there’s been some chatter online about the LEGO x Pokémon collab, and it’s getting me hyped! Apparently, leaked info suggests we could see a ton of sets – like, 23 in total – hitting shelves in 2026. They’re saying five sets might drop early in the year, between February and March. What’s really interesting is that four of those rumored sets are rated 18+. That usually means they’re aimed at adult builders – so expect some seriously detailed and challenging builds, not just simple stuff for kids!

Recent reports suggest LEGO and Pokémon are planning a collaboration with sets for adults. One possible set is a brick-built Pikachu and Poké Ball with over 2,000 pieces, expected to cost around $200. The biggest set rumored so far is a massive build of Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur, containing 6,838 pieces and potentially priced at $650.
