A dedicated Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen player accomplished an impressive feat: defeating the Elite Four with only a single Caterpie! After days of effort, they finally succeeded and earned a place in the Hall of Fame for their tiny Pokémon.

Okay, so huge news for us Pokémon fans! Back in late February 2026, Nintendo and Game Freak dropped the announcement that FireRed and LeafGreen were coming to the Switch as part of the 30th anniversary. Can you believe it’s been over 22 years since those games first came out? This is the first time we’ve been able to play them on anything other than the Game Boy Advance, which is awesome. It’s really brought those older games back into the spotlight, especially with all the excitement building around the announcement of Generation 10!

Gamer Beats Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Elite Four With a Shiny Caterpie

Okay, so this Redditor, anonimoo008, did something absolutely insane! They beat Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen’s Elite Four with just a single Pokemon – a shiny Caterpie, no less! They actually almost gave up because it was so tough, but they came back to it later and kept trying. Apparently, it took days of battling, but they finally figured out a strategy that worked. Seeing their Caterpie in the Hall of Fame is hilarious, honestly – it’s such an unexpected champion! It’s amazing how much perseverance paid off for them.

What makes this accomplishment so remarkable is that it was a rematch against the Elite Four, meaning all the trainers – including the Champion – had stronger teams with Pokémon reaching level 70 or higher. To illustrate, defeating the Champion’s powerful Tyranitar with a weak Caterpie, using a Struggle move that Tyranitar resists, is incredibly challenging because Rock-type attacks, which are super effective against Caterpie, would quickly defeat it.

The player had a very powerful Caterpie, leveled up to 100, hoping to defeat the Elite Four in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. It was equipped with Leftovers and surprisingly relied on the Struggle move for most of its damage. This Caterpie had an Adamant nature, meaning its Attack stat was boosted by 10%, but its Special Attack was reduced by the same amount.

Throughout the history of Pokémon games, players have always enjoyed finding creative ways to complete them, extending the game’s lifespan long after release. The recent re-release of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen on the Nintendo Switch is no exception. Players are already tackling difficult challenges in unique ways, and just recently, one player completed the Elite Four with a very weak team. Many more players will likely continue to seek out these kinds of self-imposed challenges in the future.

With the popular remakes of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen and the positive response to Pokopia, the Pokemon series is doing incredibly well as it marks its 30th anniversary. Last month, Game Freak announced Pokemon Winds and Waves, the next generation of Pokemon games fans have been waiting for. These new games, Generation 10, are scheduled for release in 2027.
