Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Player Finds One of the Better Uses for a Master Ball in the Game

After Nintendo recently re-released Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, a player has found a clever new way to use the Master Ball. These classic games arrived on the Nintendo Switch earlier this year with a few updates, and while the price was a talking point, most fans enjoyed the re-release. With the games gaining popularity again, the long-standing question of which Pokemon to use the Master Ball on has come up once more.

In Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, the Master Ball is the best Poke Ball available, guaranteed to catch any Pokemon you use it on. However, you only get one Master Ball per game, so deciding when to use it is a big choice. Some players prefer to use it to catch the legendary dogs, while others save it for a different, potentially rarer, Pokemon.

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Player Uses Master Ball On Shiny Koffing

A Reddit user named RotundDragonite shared their surprising Master Ball catch on the Pokemon subreddit. Instead of saving it for a legendary Pokémon, they chose to catch a shiny Koffing, which might seem like an odd decision. Shiny Pokémon are incredibly rare – they have about a 1 in 8192 chance of appearing, and even getting a shiny starter in games like Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen can take around 69 hours! This makes finding them exciting, but even more stressful because Koffing has a tricky move called Explosion. This move automatically faints Koffing, and wild Koffings often use it. Considering all of this, RotundDragonite decided the rare shiny encounter was too good to pass up and used their Master Ball.

Most Pokémon fans agree it’s best to save the Master Ball for the legendary Pokémon you catch later in the game. However, because it’s so rare, some players have accidentally used it on weaker Pokémon. There have been stories of players wasting it on Pokémon like Gastly! To avoid this, it’s a good idea to save your game immediately after getting the Master Ball, so you can reload if you accidentally use it on the wrong Pokémon.

Ultimately, players should use the Master Ball on any Pokémon they choose – whether it’s a legendary, a shiny, or just a favorite. With new Pokémon games coming in Generation 10, the series is here to stay, and fans can decide how they want to use this special item in the next game they play.
