Earlier this year, information about the next generation of Pokémon games—Generation 10—was leaked in something called the Teraleak 2. Now, more details have surfaced, including a first look at an early version of the game’s map. The game is currently believed to be called either Pokémon Wind or Pokémon Waves, but it’s unclear whether the title will be singular or plural.
Keep in mind that this map is still under development and subject to change before the final game is released. However, since the next Pokémon generation is based on Southeast Asia and Indonesia, the overall layout will probably remain largely the same.
Pokemon Gen 10 is Inspired by Southeast Asia/Indonesia
According to CentroLeaks, the game’s map is heavily based on real-world locations, with many islands closely resembling their counterparts. While some changes are expected, the current version largely features Indonesia and the Malay Peninsula, rearranged but still recognizable. Key landmarks remain similar to those found in the real world, including…
- Sumatra
- Java
- New Guinea
- Kalimantan
- Borneo
- Sulawesi
- Southern Thailand
- Part of Australia
- Many others
The map also features a volcano, deserts, and a snow-covered mountain – all common elements in Pokémon regions. Interestingly, it appears to include Sulawesi, an Indonesian island known for its unique wildlife that has evolved in isolation and isn’t found anywhere else. While a feature called “Isolated Evolutions” hasn’t been confirmed for the next Pokémon generation, it would be a fitting theme given Sulawesi’s presence. Plus, the region has a lot of water, similar to the Hoenn and Alola regions, which is fairly typical for a Pokémon game.
The appearance of Borneo in the game, along with a lot of water areas, strengthens my belief that the water-type starter Pokémon in the next generation (Gen 10) will be inspired by the proboscis monkey. Previous leaks and other clues suggested this possibility, but the game’s map clearly shows how important islands and open water will be in the new Pokémon Wind(s)/Wave(s) game.
Players will have to wait and see what adjustments are made based on this early version. The next generation of Pokemon (Gen 10) is anticipated to be announced on Pokemon Day in February, with a likely release in Fall 2026. While this sneak peek at the new region is exciting, most fans are eager to find out what the new Pokemon will look like. That reveal is still months, possibly even a year or more, away, but it will be fascinating to watch the region develop further.
