Pokemon Gen 10’s Battle Gimmick Leaks, Looks Like One Piece

Leaks for the next generation of Pokémon games (Gen 10) have appeared online, including a video showcasing a new battle feature. This is happening even though the Pokémon Legends: Z-A DLC is brand new and more content for that game may still be coming. The leaks, part of a larger ‘Teraleak’ of information, reveal details about what developer Game Freak is working on. With the current generation (Pokémon Gen 9) entering its fourth year and the franchise’s 30th anniversary approaching in 2026, a new generation of Pokémon games is clearly on the horizon.

We don’t have official details about the next generation of Pokémon games (Gen 10) yet, but information is expected to be revealed on Pokémon Day, February 27th. A previous leak, known as the “Teraleak,” revealed a lot about the games, including potential titles, the region they’ll be set in, the Legendary Pokémon, and even the starter Pokémon, along with some images. Now, a short video has leaked, showing an early version of the game and how the new battle mechanic works. Some people are saying it has a strong resemblance to One Piece, and it might not appeal to all players.

Say Hello to Pokemon Gen 10’s First Battle Gimmick Video

So, the early leaks for the new Pokemon games – Gen 10 – were pointing towards weather playing a big role in battles. That totally makes sense, because the leaked names for the games are Pokemon Wind and Wave. I saw a video recently and it showed a Pikachu glitching out, like you’re looking at it through water or fog, and it was glowing red. There was even a cloud-shaped shadow in front of it! It really seems like these new games are going to have a big focus on Weather Moves in battles, which is super cool if you ask me.

Pokemon Gen 10’s battle gimmick is codenamed “Majin,” according to leaks.

A leaked video surfaced on the Twitter account of Centro Leaks, and it shows a visual effect strikingly similar to Luffy’s Gear Third from the anime One Piece. In One Piece, Luffy expands his body to create giant limbs and powerfully attack his opponents. The leaked video of a Pokémon from Generation 10 appears to show Pikachu’s body inflating and deflating in a similar way, creating a distorted look. Some viewers have also pointed out the resemblance to Luffy’s Gear Second, where he turns red and emits steam to gain incredible speed.

While there’s speculation about whether the new battle system in Pokémon Generation 10 takes cues from One Piece, it’s fundamentally different from the Mega Evolutions introduced in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. In fact, it’s a unique battle mechanic for the series. However, it feels like a natural fit for Pokémon, considering how important weather already is to gameplay. Weather effects already influence battles, boosting certain moves and even forming the basis for entire competitive strategies, like Rain teams.

Pokemon Games and Their Gimmicks So Far

So far, Pokemon gimmicks have been the following:

  • Mega Evolution (Gen 6): A selection of Pokemon that can’t evolve or have no further evolution slots available get a new, temporary form with Mega Evolution.
  • Z-Moves (Gen 7): Pokemon get a dedicated move that’s specific to their species and is very powerful, only usable once per battle.
  • Dynamax and Gigantamax (Gen 8): All Pokemon can Dynamax, becoming much bigger and stronger for three turns, whereas only a few Pokemon can Gigantamax, obtaining special forms and moves.
  • Terastallization (Gen 9): Every Pokemon can Terastallize to change their type to a specific one, which can also be chosen with in-game currency.

It’s possible that the next generation of Pokémon games will feature weather effects that not only change the battlefield but also alter a Pokémon’s appearance and grant access to new, stronger moves. While this would introduce a fresh look, the idea of weather impacting battles isn’t new to the series. We’ll likely learn more soon, especially after the Pokémon Day announcements for the 2026 games.
