Niantic has declared that the Pokémon GO Lunar New Year 2025 celebration will commence on January 29, offering gamers chances to secure Lucky Pokémon, Shiny Pokémon, and more enthralling prizes. Much like the current Fashion Week event, Pokémon GO enthusiasts can complete Field Research tasks to collect extra incentives during the Lunar New Year festivities.

2025 marks the ninth anniversary of my favorite game, Pokemon GO, and I can hardly contain my excitement for what’s coming! Leading up to summer and the grand Pokemon GO Fest, there will be numerous events and updates that I can’t wait to dive into. One such event is the Pokemon GO Tour: Unova happening in Los Angeles and New Taipei City from February 21 to 23. This global event will have its own dedicated day in March, but before the Unova tour kicks off, players like me are given a unique chance to expand our collection by catching new Pokemon during the Lunar New Year celebrations!

The Lunar New Year celebration in Pokemon GO will take place between Wednesday, January 29, at 10:00 a.m., and Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 8:00 p.m., as per Niantic’s announcement. During this event, players will have a higher probability of getting Lucky Pokemon when they trade, and it will be easier for them to become Lucky Friends, which in turn increases the chances of obtaining Lucky Pokemon.

While exploring for Pokemon in the wild, you’ll notice Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini appearing more frequently. There will also be an increased chance to encounter Shiny variants of these featured Pokemon.

During the event, Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi will hatch from 2 km Eggs.

  • Paid Timed Research ($2) offers more rewards, including two Lucky Eggs and an incubator.

During the Lunar New Year celebration in Pokemon GO, you’ll find special Field Research and Timed Research tasks. Completing these tasks will reward you with Stardust, XP, and encounters with event-specific Pokemon. Additionally, participating in Routes during the event can help you gather Zygarde Cells. For those aiming for extra rewards, an exclusive Paid Timed Research is available for $2, offering two Lucky Eggs, an incubator, and chances to encounter Ekans and Nosepass. Remember to claim all Field Research and Timed Research rewards before February 2 at 8:00 p.m. local time. So, make sure to redeem your rewards immediately after completing the tasks for maximum benefit!

Participants can submit their Pokemon associated with the Lunar New Year in the PokeStop Showcases of Pokemon GO to earn additional prizes contingent on the showcase’s outcome, including assortments of items. Furthermore, Niantic has announced that a themed Collection Challenge will be introduced as part of the event, and successful completion of this challenge will award extra Stardust for trades. Consequently, active traders are expected to reap significant rewards from participating in the Lunar New Year event coming up later this month.
