Pokemon GO Got Rid of a Great Feature, But I Hope It Comes Back

Pokemon GO is removing a well-liked feature for players who enjoy catching particular Pokemon: Spotlight Hours won’t be happening next season. While the game continues to offer many special events for fans to collect their favorite creatures, it’s changing things up. Raid Hours will still let players battle powerful Pokemon, and Community Days will continue to focus on specific Pokemon, boosting their appearance rates and offering chances to find Shiny versions with special abilities.

Spotlight Hours have been a favorite event in Pokemon GO since they began in 2020. Every Tuesday, these events focus on a single Pokemon, increasing its appearance in the game, boosting the chance of finding a Shiny version, and offering extra Stardust when you catch it. They’ve often coincided with other events, like the current Road to Kalos event which has featured Totodile. However, it looks like Spotlight Hours might be ending with the next season of Pokemon GO, at least for the time being.

Pokemon GO Is Removing Spotlight Hours

The recently released Pokemon GO roadmap for March 2026 doesn’t include any scheduled Spotlight Hours at the beginning of the new season. While the calendar features popular events like Max Battle Days, Community Days, and some upcoming surprises, Spotlight Hours aren’t listed during the ‘Memories in Motion’ event. Weekly Raid Hours will still take place, with special Raids happening each week in March. The Totodile Spotlight Hour on February 24th is currently the last one planned, but Niantic hasn’t officially announced if Spotlight Hours are being discontinued altogether.

Removing Spotlight Hours will significantly impact players’ ability to catch specific Pokémon and gather important resources. These events have been a regular feature in Pokémon GO, offering a short, focused experience similar to Community Days each week. They’ve been a reliable way to earn Candy and Stardust, which are essential for strengthening Pokémon. The upcoming Memories in Motion event will mark the first time Pokémon GO hasn’t held a Spotlight Hour since they began on February 4, 2020, alongside the first Onix Community Day.

Even after sharing a preliminary plan for Memories in Motion, Pokémon GO hasn’t fully detailed what to expect in the new season. The schedule currently lists several unknown events throughout March and early April. So far, “Bug Out” is the only confirmed week-long event, which will highlight Bug-type Pokémon. The game has also announced the dates for March’s Research Day (March 21st) and Max Battle Day (March 28th).

Get ready for another Pokémon GO Community Day! Happening on March 14th, the event will focus on Scorbunny, a popular Pokémon from the game’s 8th generation. You’ll have a much better chance of finding and catching Scorbunny during the event. Plus, if you evolve your Raboot into Cinderace, it can learn a special attack called Blast Burn. This is all part of the upcoming ‘Memories in Motion’ event, and while the game may be changing its Spotlight Hours, there will still be plenty of opportunities to catch new Pokémon!
