Pokémon GO is giving players another chance to earn a Master Ball during its new Precious Paths season, starting December 2nd. The season promises exciting updates like Pokémon with winter-themed looks, fresh research tasks, and great rewards, but the biggest news is likely the return of the highly sought-after Master Ball.
As a longtime Pokemon GO player, let me tell you, getting a Master Ball feels like winning the lottery! It’s only been available a few times since the game came out way back in 2016. But for those of us chasing those super rare Pokemon, it’s a total game-changer. Seriously, it guarantees you’ll catch anything – that 100% catch rate is amazing! Throw it, and boom, Pokemon caught!

The new Precious Paths season in Pokemon GO starts December 2nd at 10 AM local time. A major addition will be the chance to earn a Master Ball, the game’s most powerful type of Poke Ball. Unlike other Poke Balls, this one costs $7.99 (or the regional equivalent) to obtain.
Okay, so just like with past events, buying this doesn’t immediately give you a Master Ball. Instead, you get a special set of research tasks – Masterwork Research – and completing those is how you earn it. They just announced the new season, so we don’t know exactly what these tasks will be yet. But if previous events are anything to go by, be prepared to do a lot of catching! I’m guessing we’ll need to catch tons of different Pokémon with all sorts of Poké Balls, plus hatch eggs and use berries to complete the research. It’s a bit of a grind, but a Master Ball is totally worth it!
This winter, Pokémon GO players have a lot to look forward to beyond the chance to win a Master Ball! New Special Research tasks and rewards are coming, along with special holiday versions of Sudowoodo and Charjabug. Clobbopus and Grapploct will also be available soon, and you’ll be able to battle Gigantamax Meowth and Dynamax Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan in Max Raid battles. For competitive players, the GO Battle League is returning, and collectors can find new winter-themed stickers by spinning PokeStops, opening gifts, or purchasing them in the in-game shop.
