Many Pokemon GO players have noticed that their Shiny Pokemon are disappearing from their accounts, with a lot of them specifically reporting lost Shiny Cetitans. Since the game launched almost 10 years ago, Niantic and now Scopely have added tons of popular creatures from all nine generations of the Pokemon franchise, including regional versions from games like Pokemon Sun and Moon and Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Shiny Pokemon are especially rare and valuable, making this issue particularly concerning for players.
Shiny Pokémon, Pokémon with rare and different color variations, have been a part of the Pokémon series since the very beginning, first appearing in the Gold and Silver games. Throughout all the Pokémon games released since then, each Pokémon has had its own unique Shiny form. Pokémon GO makes it easier for players to find and catch these Shiny Pokémon, especially during special events like Community Days and Raid Hours where they appear more often. Recently, however, some Pokémon GO players have noticed that certain Shiny Pokémon are disappearing from their accounts without any clear reason.
Some Pokemon GO Fans Are Losing Shiny Cetitans
Recently, several Pokemon GO players on Reddit have reported their Shiny Cetitans disappearing from their accounts. One user, legitimateaccount2, shared that their Shiny Cetitan vanished after they tried to place it in a Gym, having just traded for its pre-evolution, Cetoddle, the night before. Another player, Yakill4635, received a notification saying their Shiny Cetitan was removed, and noticed a complaint tag next to its name before it disappeared completely – it was even removed from their in-game Pokedex.
Fans were surprised to see the Shiny Cetitan suddenly disappear from the game, and many speculated about why. One player suggested it might be related to Scopely’s increased efforts to prevent cheating in Pokemon GO. Others thought there might be a problem with the Shiny Cetitan itself, as one user reported losing a Shiny Cetoddle they had traded for. It seems the issue only affects recently obtained Shiny Cetoddles, while older ones are still working as expected.

Just as the holiday season is in full swing for Pokemon GO, players have noticed that Shiny Pokemon are temporarily unavailable. On December 24th, the game launched the second part of its Winter Holiday event, introducing Rolycoly and special Christmas-themed Pokemon. Cetoddle, a Pokemon from the latest generation, is also a highlight of the event, appearing more frequently and with increased chances of being found in its rare, shiny form. Cetoddle will be easier to find until the event ends on December 29th.

The game will feature two special Community Day events: one with Piplup, and another highlighting Grookey on January 18th. A New Year’s event will also begin on December 31st, with costumed versions of Hoothoot and Pikachu. Pokemon GO players have a lot to look forward to in the new year, including these events and the chance to catch new Pokemon!
