In an exciting development, the maximum level attainable in Pokemon GO is being raised from 50 to 80. When Pokemon GO debuted back in 2016, players could reach a maximum level of 40 by accumulating experience points (XP) effectively. However, when the game was updated significantly in 2020, a new twist was added as the level cap was increased to 50, but additional levels required a more diverse approach to earn XP.
Following the release of the Pokémon GO Go Beyond update, players could progress up to level 50, however, instead of accumulating XP points alone, they were required to complete specific tasks. Consequently, the journey from level 40 to 50 became particularly difficult, thus only those with significant dedication succeeded. Five years later, Pokémon GO is raising its level cap once more and implementing significant changes to the overall progression system within the game.
Pokemon GO Level Cap is Going from 50 to 80
Beginning on October 15th, the maximum level in “Pokemon GO” is being increased from 50 to 80. Those who play frequently will advance in level more quickly due to their total experience points (XP). The game is adjusting its level progression to make it easier for players to reach level 80. This means that tasks associated with Level-Up research between levels 41 and 50 are being phased out, while new ones from levels 71 to 80 are being introduced. Additionally, players can anticipate new rewards tied to level progression, such as increased Pokemon storage capacity, among others. Rest assured that no “Pokemon GO” player will experience a decrease in their level due to this change.

Players who’ve dedicated countless hours to reach level 50 in Pokemon GO might feel disheartened by this update, but they won’t walk away empty-handed. By 11:59 pm local time on October 14th, all players will receive a medal signifying their highest achieved level between 1 and 50. Remarkably, those who reached level 50 will be rewarded with a unique Level 50 Jacket and an exclusive avatar pose. Although they’ll no longer be at the level cap, they’ll still have something to boast about!

For Pokémon GO enthusiasts, an exciting event called the XP Celebration is coming! It starts on Monday, August 25 at 1:00pm PT and continues until October 14 at 11:59pm local time. During this period, players will benefit from double experience points for Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws, 3,000 XP for winning raids, and 3,000 XP for victories in Max Battles. Special research tasks will be available for players level 5 and above, offering opportunities to earn up to 7 million XP. Additionally, the challenging Level-Up Research task that requires players to cover 25 km in a week eight times will now only need to be completed twice during this event.

Players who are ready to invest some money in Pokémon GO might find the XP Celebration Ultra Box appealing. Only available for purchase by three players per account, this $9.99 package includes 15 Lucky Eggs, one Super Incubator, one Incubator, five Incense, and two Lure Modules. Given these additional items, Pokémon GO enthusiasts can advance their levels more quickly while waiting for the level cap and associated updates to become effective on October 15.
