Pokemon GO is updating the number of participants allowed in a Gigantamax Battle. While this adjustment may offer advantages to players, it has sparked discussions among fans about potential difficulties this might create in the Pokemon GO Gigantamax Battle dynamics.
In the world of Pokémon GO, Eternatus has made its debut! Those who attended the Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim will have the exclusive chance to capture the colossal Eternatus in its Eternamax form initially. The upcoming Pokémon GO Fest 2025: Max Finale event marks a shift in Gigantamax Battles, where it will now be possible to engage in titanic battles not only with Eternatus but also during standard Gigantamax fights.
Pokemon GO Changes Participant Limit for Gigantamax Battles
In the upcoming Max Finale, Pokemon GO is introducing a modification where up to 100 Pokemon trainers can join the same battle against Gigantamax Pokemon or Eternamax Eternatus. These trainers will be divided into groups of no more than four. This change will apply globally and persist after the battle with Eternatus is over. The game’s announcement suggests that having more trainers increases the chances of victory, but players are still unsure about this new feature.

Earlier in Pokemon GO, groups could only consist of 40 trainers. Now, there’s a change in the works, allowing up to 100 players. However, some fans question whether this change is as advantageous as it appears. The possibility that battles might become more challenging due to the increased group size has been raised. Additionally, concerns have been expressed about rural players, as finding enough members for groups used to be difficult in these areas. Some are also requesting a matchmaking feature to make it easier to find compatible players. Interestingly, some players feel let down by this development and would have preferred to see the number of players per group decreased instead, with an adjustment in difficulty to maintain balance.

Although it’s called a permanent change, online games can always be modified. If the increased number ends up causing more problems than benefits for most players, there might be additional changes made in the future. After many Pokémon GO players have had a chance to fight against Eternamax Eternatus, we may see a clearer opinion on whether this was a good decision by the developers.
