Summary
- Mythical Pokemon like Mew in Pokemon GO are rare and only available through specific Special Research tasks.
- Shiny and hundo Mews are extremely coveted by players due to their rarity and strength in the game.
As a dedicated Pokémon GO gamer, I’ve just managed to snag an exceptionally rare Mew – a catch that’s not easy to come by! Most of the pocket monsters you encounter in this game are found out in the wild, but there’s another group that’s more exclusive. And guess what? I was fortunate enough to get my hands on one! Sharing this exciting news with the community feels great!
In Pokemon GO, Mythical Pokemon like Meloetta are typically connected to unique Special Research quests rather than the usual gameplay. For instance, to capture Meloetta in Pokemon GO, trainers had to participate in the 2021 GO Fest and complete the Special Research “The Melody Pokemon,” which ensured an encounter with the Aria Forme. Another chance presented itself later that year when the “Find Your Voice” Special Research offered a chance to catch Meloetta Aria Forme. Catching rare, powerful creatures in Pokemon GO is an added difficulty, so recently a trainer was thrilled to successfully capture one.
On the Reddit for Pokemon GO, user Sod987 exhibited their latest catch: a radiant, max-stat Mew, a creature particularly sought after in Niantic’s game due to its rarity and exceptional power. Intrigued, they wondered about the odds of finding such a rare Mew, known by players as a “shundo” – a term for pocket monsters that are both shiny and have ideal attack, defense, and stamina statistics. This exceptional specimen is among the most coveted in the game, given its scarcity and potential strength. Another striking feature is its CP of 1399, which marks the highest possible CP for a Kanto Pokemon obtained through Research.
How to Get Mew in Pokemon GO?
Despite not specifying the acquisition method, it’s worth noting that the Mew character in Pokemon GO can only be obtained through two means. The standard version is awarded to players who successfully complete the Special Research mission titled “A Mythical Discovery.” This research was launched in 2018, and one of its seventh-step tasks involves capturing a Pokemon from Kanto. The shiny variant of Mew was introduced in 2021 as part of the “All-in-One” Special Research during the Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto. Here, Mew is one of the rewards for finishing the third stage, making it one of the rarest shinies within the game.
Players who haven’t researched Mew might miss out, but other potent pocket monsters are about to showcase their strength. In Pokemon GO, new versions of Zamazenta and Zacian will be introduced during GO Fest 2025, giving players the chance to transform them into Crowned Sword and Crowned Shield forms respectively. Furthermore, these Pokemon will learn their distinctive moves, as Behemoth Blade becomes accessible for Crowned Sword Zacian, while Behemoth Bash is obtainable for Crowned Shield Zamazenta.
