A player in Pokemon GO is trying to sell a rare, shiny Galarian Articuno and another Pokemon for more than $13,000 apiece. This breaks Pokemon GO‘s rules, but it’s unclear if the game’s creators, Niantic, can actually do anything to stop them.
The standard Legendary birds have been in Pokémon GO for quite some time, but Galarian Articuno was only recently added, appearing in early October 2024 as part of the Galarian Expedition event. You can still catch it, but it’s only available through the Daily Adventure Incense. Players estimate you have about a 1 in 500 chance of it appearing when using the incense. Like other Legendary Pokémon, Galarian Articuno has a 5% chance of being shiny. This means the odds of finding a shiny Galarian Articuno using the Daily Adventure Incense are roughly 1 in 10,000, or 0.01%.
Pokemon GO’s Shiny Galarian Articuno and Armored Mewtwo Currently Selling for Over $13,000 Each on eBay

A very rare version of Galarian Articuno recently appeared for sale on eBay UK for £10,090.31 (about $13,250 as of November 12th). The same seller is also offering an Armored Mewtwo – a Pokemon only obtainable during limited-time raids in 2019 and 2020 – for the same price. The seller plans to deliver both Pokemon by changing their location within the Pokemon GO game to allow for a trade. They also offer to boost the Pokemon’s strength (CP) before the trade.
Most Expensive Pokemon GO Shiny on eBay US Is Currently ‘Only’ $2,467
On eBay UK, Galarian Articuno and Armored Mewtwo are selling for much higher prices than any Pokémon available on the US eBay site. Game Rant found that the most expensive Pokémon currently listed on eBay US is a shiny Witch Hat Pichu, selling for $2,467.50. This rare, Halloween-themed Pokémon is known for being one of the hardest to find in Pokémon GO.
Selling Pokemon GO Trades Is Against Niantic’s Terms of Service
Selling Pokémon in the game Pokémon GO breaks the rules set by Niantic, the game’s creator. The Terms of Service specifically prohibit trading Pokémon for anything—even without real money—unless it’s done through official in-game features. While it’s hard to catch everyone doing this, Niantic could try a few things. They could pose as buyers to find and ban sellers, or they could analyze game data to spot unusual trading activity, like accounts trading from different parts of the world. However, sellers who are careful—for example, by using multiple accounts—might be able to avoid detection.
It’s not yet known if Niantic is doing anything to stop people from selling Pokémon GO trades. One seller currently offering a shiny Witch Hat Pichu has a long history on the platform, with over 30,000 completed sales and more than 7,500 positive reviews (99.9%) dating back to November 2017.
