As a seasoned Pokémon GO player with over five years of experience under my belt, I must say that the ongoing Rediscover Kanto event has left me feeling a bit like a broken record. Don’t get me wrong; reliving nostalgic moments and catching beloved Kanto Pokémon was initially exciting. However, eight months later, it feels like I’m stuck in a never-ending loop of Mankeys and Rattatas.
Many Pokémon GO enthusiasts have voiced their dissatisfaction over the revised Kanto spawn pool, an adjustment that was implemented in April 2024. Some avid fans of Pokémon GO believe the game’s spawn mechanism requires significant improvement.
As a devoted Pokémon GO enthusiast, I’ve been thrilled by the recent update that not only enhanced various aspects of gameplay but also introduced the Rediscover Kanto event. This update has given a fresh lease of life to the in-game landscapes, making certain Pokémon more visible in areas mirroring their native habitats. The Rediscover Kanto event has significantly increased the appearance rate of Generation 1 Pokémon, offering me, and other players, greater chances to capture intriguing creatures like Mankey, Machop, Rattata, or Koffing. This update has also altered the spawn pool within Pokémon GO, ensuring that these classic Pokémon appear more frequently compared to others.
After eight months since its release, I’ve noticed that the Rediscover Kanto event in Pokemon GO is becoming a bit repetitive. Although it was intended to help us relive our nostalgic memories, it seems like the same old Kanto Pokemon keep popping up everywhere, making it hard for us to catch new or diverse creatures. On Reddit, many players have been expressing their disappointment, noting that the excessive presence of Kanto Pokemon in the wild is making it tough to find any fresh faces. For some veterans who’ve completed their Pokedex for the Kanto region, this has led to a sense of staleness in gameplay.
Pokemon GO Players Disappointed With ‘Rediscover Kanto’
It’s not the first occasion that Niantic has received criticism regarding the alterations in Pokémon spawn pools made by the Rediscover Kanto event. Many players have already shown dissatisfaction due to the strong emphasis on Generation 1 Pokémon, feeling that it excluded those who prefer catching Pokémon from later generations. Although some admired the straightforward tasks and rewards, others contended that the event’s prolonged duration hindered opportunities for a more balanced rotation of spawns. Additionally, some Pokémon GO players have voiced concerns about the Rediscover Kanto Special Research tasks, finding them challenging or monotonous.
As a devoted Pokemon GO fan, I’ve voiced my concerns, alongside others, about certain spawn-related issues during special events, particularly around the holidays. We were anticipating an abundance of Ice-type Pokemon, but instead, we encountered more Dark and Poison-types, which felt less festive and a bit disappointing. I, along with many other trainers, have communicated our expectations to Niantic, hoping for a wider variety of holiday-themed creatures and a more diverse catch experience throughout the year.
