Pokemon GO Players Blast ‘Misleading’ and ‘Cruel’ Pop-Up Message

In 2025, Pokemon GO still boasted a significant player base, with around 125 million people playing each month and an average of 5.4 million daily players. While not as popular as its peak in the summer of 2016, the game remains widely played, thanks to regular updates that add new Pokemon and features. However, not all updates are well-received; recently, many players expressed frustration with how the game handles fusing Reshiram or Zekrom with Kyurem.

Kyurem could first combine with Zekrom or Reshiram in the Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 games using a special item. In Pokémon GO, players can fuse Kyurem with either Zekrom or Reshiram by completing around 20 raids and collecting 1000 energy for the desired form, along with some candy. A special event, Kyurem Fusion Raid Day on January 10th, gave players another opportunity to get these legendary Pokémon. However, many players were upset by a confusing message they received during the event, which some described as misleading and frustrating.

Pokemon GO Pop-Up About Fusion is “Disgustingly Misleading and Honestly Cruel”

A Reddit user, RonnieThePurple, pointed out that the message when fusing Kyurem with Zekrom or Reshiram is a bit misleading. It says you can separate the Pokemon for free, which is true, but it doesn’t mention that you still have to spend energy if you choose not to fuse them later. This means players might think they can always refuse the fusion without cost, leading them to separate the Pokemon unnecessarily. The message doesn’t give players all the information they need to make the best choice.

The situation gets even more complex due to how fusion could work. Some players suggest it should function like Mega Evolution in Pokemon GO – once you’ve fused a Pokemon once, you should be able to do it again. For example, since Kyurem determines whether you get Black or White Kyurem, some fans believe fusing with it shouldn’t require extra energy each time.

Other players, like Redditor JekkuOnNeekeri, have noted that the game clearly states it will cost more energy to fuse Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma again later on. This means the information missing for Black/White Kyurem is actually available for other Pokémon.

The idea of separating Pokémon is controversial. While some players don’t see a strong need for it, others worry it creates problems and disadvantages. Pokémon GO demands a lot from players, both within the game and in real life, and rural players often struggle to keep pace with those in more populated areas. Even with events designed to be accessible remotely, like the January 10th Raid Day, many factors impact how often someone can play. Separating Pokémon would mean players would have to spend Fusion Energy to combine them again, which isn’t ideal. A simple solution could be to allow Pokémon to separate for free, but require Fusion Energy to fuse them back together.
