As a seasoned Pokémon GO player who has navigated through countless gyms, battles, and countless hours of walking to hatch eggs, I can empathize with Jeanious90’s predicament. The Master Ball is a rare and precious commodity that I, too, have held in my inventory for years, waiting for the perfect moment to catch that elusive legendary Pokémon. So, when I heard about their child catching a Tynamo, a common electric fish from the original Pokémon Black and White games, using one of those coveted Master Balls, it was a Christmas Day shocker.
On Christmas Day, a parent who enjoys playing Pokémon GO found themselves in an unfortunate predicament. They discovered that their child had squandered one of the precious Master Balls, which are rare items in the game, on a common Pokémon named Tynamo. Although there are approximately 900 different types of Pokémon that players can capture in Pokémon GO, the scarcity of Master Balls means they’re not typically used for catching common Electric-type Pokémon like Tynamo.
Since March 2021, players have been successfully capturing Tynamo in Pokemon GO through wild encounters, 5k eggs, and raid battles. This little electric fish made its debut in the Japanese version of Pokemon Black and White in 2010. Its fully evolved form, Eelektross, garnered attention for being the first Pokemon that didn’t have any type-based vulnerabilities due to its Levitate ability, which rendered it immune to Ground-type attacks.
For Reddit user Jeanious90, it came as quite a surprise to find their 4-year-old child had utilized one of the precious Master Balls in Niantic’s augmented reality game, Pokemon GO, while they were briefly out of the room. Master Balls in Pokemon GO are unique because they guarantee catching any Pokemon and because players have only been able to acquire four since the game’s launch in 2016, often locked behind paid content. This parent found out that their child had wasted one of these valuable items on an unwanted Christmas present.
Pokemon GO Player’s Kid Wastes Master Ball on Christmas
Although this parent may not have intended to use the Master Ball on Tynamo, it’s far from being a useless Pokemon. Its Individual Values, although not perfect, earn it a two-star ranking, and its Health Points are at an optimal three bars. This is actually better than some players can claim, as evidenced by a player in October who lamented the loss of their Master Ball on a 0-star Pokemon.
Despite the disappointing nature of the more-recent waste of a Master Ball, this parent is taking the catch in stride. Remembering the sense of community in Pokemon GO, they’ve named the tiny fish after the Master Ball that caught it and added it to their favorites list, stating the memory of this in-game Christmas disaster is one they’ll always cherish. Told by one commenter not to let their kids near their phones, this loving parent simply stated, “Enjoy PoGO once by yourself. Enjoy it infinitely more times with your kids (even at the expense of a masterball).”
