Summary
- Some Pokemon GO fans feel the game has grown neglectful of wild encounters, which is supposed to be its key feature.
- Over half of new mons added to Pokemon GO in 2024 weren’t encounterable in the wild.
Some enthusiasts of the game Pokemon GO are urging Niantic to enhance, or boost, the excitement of finding Pokémon in the wild. They believe that Niantic has not focused enough on improving this aspect of the game in recent times.
Throughout the year 2024, a total of 40 fresh Pokémon were introduced in Pokémon GO. Alongside increasing the game’s variety of species, Niantic also unveiled numerous new Pokémon forms during this span, including 118 shiny versions and approximately six Gigantamax forms.
However, not every fan is pleased with how frequently these fresh additions have been incorporated into the successful mobile game. For instance, Joe Merrick, proprietor of the renowned Pokemon fan site Serebii, recently expressed his discontent on Twitter in early January 2025. He criticized Niantic for appearing to ignore wild encounters, as he believes this is a problem. To emphasize his point, he pointed out that more than half of all new monsters added to the game in 2024 could not be found in the wild, but rather required players to join raids or spend money instead.
Merrick proposed that the game, Pokemon GO, is moving further from its roots by lessening the emphasis on real-world monster hunts. His post quickly gained traction, earning thousands of likes, hundreds of shares, and numerous comments within a day, ultimately reaching over 285,000 views on January 9th. This surge of activity suggests that many Pokemon GO enthusiasts share Merrick’s critique and want the game to enhance wild encounters for a more authentic experience.
Pokemon GO’s Next Mon Will Be Encounterable in the Wild
As a dedicated Pokemon GO fan, I have to admit that the likelihood of Niantic altering its long-term plans for the game in response to the recent influx of complaints is quite slim. From what we’ve learned about their development process over the years, they typically map out content well ahead – at least a year in advance. So, even if they were to take our feedback into account, the initial signs of such a design change wouldn’t be noticeable until 2026 at the earliest.
Despite some other events taking place, the new Pokemon from Pokemon GO called Rookidee will start appearing in the wild from January 21st. This Galar species is scheduled to be introduced on that day, which also marks the beginning of the Steeled Resolve event. To evolve Rookidee into Corvisquire and then Corviknight, you’ll need 25 and 100 Rookidee Candy respectively. The Steeled Resolve event is set to end at 8pm local time on January 26th. As of early 2025, around 200 Pokemon are yet to be added to the game, with Niantic expected to introduce several dozen of them throughout this year.
