So, Pokemon GO just announced their New Year’s event, and it sounds pretty cool! They’re adding some awesome bonuses and, get this, Pokemon wearing special outfits! As someone who plays pretty regularly, it’s great to see Niantic constantly updating the game with new stuff, especially these limited-time holiday events. It really keeps things fresh and gives me a reason to keep checking in!
Wow, December is shaping up to be a seriously packed month in Pokemon GO! They already had the yearly Community Day earlier this month, which was awesome because it let us catch a bunch of Pokemon we might have missed throughout the year. But that’s not all! There are tons of limited-time events happening, like Max Raid battles with Darumaka and Cryogonal, more 5-star raids, and even some new Spotlight events. And of course, Niantic is bringing back a special New Year’s event for us to enjoy – it’s going to be a busy but fun end to the year!
Pokemon GO New Years Event Start and End Times
- December 31, 2025 at 10am to January 4, 2026 at 8pm local time
The year-end event in Pokemon GO begins on New Year’s Eve at 10am local time. Players can look forward to festive fireworks in the game, plus double XP from Raids and twice as much Stardust. Keep an eye out for special costumed Pokemon, including a Pikachu with a star-themed top hat, appearing both in the wild and during Raid battles.
But there’s more! You might also find Pokemon wearing special items, like Bulbasaur with a party hat, Jigglypuff with a ribbon, and a Hoothoot dressed for a New Year’s celebration. Plus, there’s a chance these Pokemon could be their rare, shiny forms! You can also encounter them by completing Field Research tasks.

You’ll find Party Hat Wurmple and Pikachu in 1-Star Raids, and Raticate, Nidorino, Gengar, and Wobbuffet wearing Party Hats in 3-Star Raids. Trading is also more rewarding – Lucky trades are now possible up to 45 times instead of 35. Plus, if you trade a Pokémon that’s been in storage since 2020, it’s guaranteed to become Lucky (until the 45-trade limit is reached), and this benefit lasts permanently.

They’re also increasing the number of Raid Passes players can get daily from Photo Disks to two, up from one. This research includes two Premium Battle Passes, 3,000 Stardust, and a chance to encounter a New Year’s themed Pikachu wearing a Top Hat. Additionally, players can purchase Blacephalon Boots for their avatar in the in-game shop.
Image via Niantic Even though the main winter event is still a few weeks away, exciting new content is arriving in Pokémon GO this week! The Winter Holiday update, starting December 18th, introduces costumed Pokémon, including festive versions of Sudowoodo, Charjabug, Eevee, Dedenne, and Vikavolt. Charjabug will look like a gift, and Sudowoodo will resemble a Christmas tree. You’ll also see more Swinub, Snorunt, and Spheal, and you can unlock new winter clothing for your avatar. Plus, Eggs will be more likely to hatch Ice-type Pokémon like Smoochum, Cryogonal, and Snom.
