The first part of the Winter Holiday event starts in Pokémon GO on December 18th, and players now know what to expect! As the year comes to a close, Pokémon GO is giving players chances to earn extra rewards and catch more Pokémon.
2025 continued the tradition of introducing new Pokémon to the game, with additions like Tarountula, Spidops, Dipplin, and Hydrapple. In fact, the developers are starting to face a challenge finding more Pokémon to add to Pokémon GO. Players also received a boost with the Trainer level cap increasing from 50 to 80 in October, offering even more rewards. Even with the year nearly finished, Pokémon GO still has exciting events planned, including the first part of its Winter Holiday celebration.
Pokemon GO’s Winter Holiday Part 1 Adds New Costumed Pokemon
Scopely has announced details for the upcoming event, which starts on Thursday, December 18th at 10:00 am local time and runs until Wednesday, December 24th, 2025, at 10:00 am local time. During the first part of the Winter Holiday event, players can collect new costumed Pokémon, including festive versions of Sudowoodo, Charjabug, and Vikavolt. Event-themed Pokémon like Swinub, Snorunt, and Spheal will appear more often in the wild, and you might even find holiday-themed Sudowoodo and Charjabug. Some of these Pokémon could also be shiny! If you want a holiday-themed Vikavolt, Pokémon GO explains how to get one: evolve a holiday-costumed Charjabug into Vikavolt using 100 Grubbin Candy while near a Magnetic Lure Module.
Players will have more chances to get festive items throughout the Christmas season. During the first part of the Winter Holiday event, 7 km eggs can hatch Pokemon wearing holiday accessories, like Pichu with a festive hat and Cubchoo with a holiday ribbon. You might also find other Ice-type Pokemon like Smoochum, Cryogonal, and Snom. Besides hatching eggs, you can battle Sudowoodo, Hisuian Avalugg, and Charjabug – all sporting holiday outfits – in three-star raids. This gives players another way to collect these new, holiday-themed Pokemon in Pokemon GO.
In addition to new costumed Pokémon, the first part of the Winter Holiday event in Pokémon GO brings new clothing options for your Avatar. Players can buy a Charjabug Bag and a Sudowoodo Holiday Sweater, both available in the in-game store, and they’ll remain available even after the event is over.
I’m so excited about the Winter Holiday Part 1 update in Pokemon GO! They’re releasing a new GO Pass on December 18th that lasts all the way until December 29, 2025. Like always, there’s a free version and a paid version, and both have cool rewards. Even if you don’t spend any money, you can encounter Snom and other event Pokemon, plus get extra Stardust, XP, and items. But if you want to go all-in for $7.99, you can get a cute Snom beanie for your Avatar and even more bonuses. Plus, there are extra rewards you unlock just by making progress with either the regular or deluxe pass, which is awesome!
