Pokemon GO Senior Director Details Gigantamax Changes

As a seasoned Pokemon GO trainer with years of battling and catching under my belt, I couldn’t be more excited about the latest update introducing Gigantamax battles! The thrill of taking down these colossal creatures is unparalleled, and the prospect of adding more to my roster is simply tantalizing.

Back in October, I was thrilled when Pokemon GO rolled out battles against colossal Gigantamax Pokemon, an expansion of the Dynamax feature they introduced earlier in the year. It didn’t take long for me and other trainers to jump into action, battling the gigantic forms of Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise. The Halloween event was particularly chilling with the arrival of Gigantamax Gengar! After the event debuted and taking player feedback into account, the brilliant minds at Niantic are planning to make some adjustments to the Gigantamax feature in the near future.

Game Rant had a chat with Michael Steranka, who holds the position of senior director for Pokemon GO. He revealed that Niantic is working on alterations for upcoming Gigantamax events. Furthermore, Steranka assured players that they can anticipate numerous intriguing Gigantamax events ahead and that more Gigantamax Pokemon will be made available for battling and capturing.

Gigantamax Came From Galar To Pokemon GO

In the games Pokemon Sword and Shield, which are part of the eighth generation of Pokemon games, there’s a special feature called Gigantamaxing that was added. Unlike the Dynamax feature used throughout the Galar region, where any Pokemon can grow to a big size, Gigantamaxing is limited to certain Pokemon. These special Pokemon receive a new look and possess a strong G-Max Move. Some examples of Pokemon capable of Gigantamaxing include the starters from Galar, popular choices like Pikachu and Eevee from Generation 1, and Melmetal, a Pokemon that was first introduced in Pokemon GO.

Gigantamax Battle Rewards And Catch Rates Will Improve

In the game known as Pokemon GO, as many as 40 players can join forces to engage in a challenging battle against a formidable Gigantamax Pokemon at a special location called a Power Spot. If successful, players might have an opportunity to capture this powerful Pokemon and incorporate it into their team. These battles are the most challenging that Pokemon GO has introduced thus far, according to Steranka who referred to them as “a new endgame challenge.” To acknowledge the increased difficulty, Niantic will enhance the rewards for defeating a Gigantamax adversary. Steranka stated:

One change we’ve implemented is to enhance the rewards from defeating Gigantamax Pokémon, not just their catch rates. Our aim is for players to find the achievement of conquering these challenges satisfying, and we also want to guarantee that battles with Gigantamax Pokémon offer a fair balance against the resources needed to strengthen your own Pokémon to defeat them.

Following the update, Steranka disclosed that Gigantamax battles would provide an optimal way to collect Stardust and XL Candy in Pokemon Go. These resources are crucial for enhancing a Pokemon’s power and movesets, implying that players engaging with Gigantamax Pokemon will likely have invested a substantial amount to boost their own Pokemon’s strength. By offering more currency and items, the game encourages players to amplify their power levels, enabling them to confront and conquer even more formidable Gigantamax adversaries.

More Gigantamax Battles Are Coming In The Future

To date, Gigantamax Charizard, Venusaur, Blastoise, and Gengar have been introduced in Pokemon GO. Steranka hinted that additional Gigantamax Pokemon are imminently arriving, though he remained tight-lipped about further details. However, he did express excitement for the arrival of his favorite Pokemon, Machamp, which becomes incredibly powerful and develops glowing eyes and arms when it reaches its peak power.

Steranka motivates Pokemon GO players to collaborate as they face the upcoming Gigantamax challenges. He hinted that further changes might be on the horizon besides enhanced catch rates and increased rewards. The Niantic team is thrilled with the players for uniting to conquer these challenging tasks, praising their intelligence and ingenuity. Steranka can’t wait to witness the players dealing with upcoming Gigantamax events in Pokemon GO.
