A fresh incident called “Takeover” commences in “Pokemon GO“, allowing players to confront the Team Rocket Leaders and their teams once more. This time, they’re working to liberate their Shadow Pokemon. These potent creatures can inflict heavy damage and should not be underestimated. Among them is the formidable Shadow Giratina, currently in the control of Giovanni.
Starting August 11, 2025, at midnight, through August 17, 2025, at 11:59 PM (local time), I’ll be diving headfirst into the “Delightful Days: Taken Over” event! This guide will help you navigate through the event, providing extra insights on Giovanni, his team lineup, and effective strategies to take down the Team Rocket Boss. Not only that, but this encounter promises some brand-new Shiny Pokemon making their debut! So, let’s explore together what they are and learn how to catch them!
How To Beat Giovanni in Pokemon GO Delightful Days: Taken Over Event
During the Pokemon GO Delightful Days: Taken Over event, a special research titled “Tracking Down Team Rocket Leaders” will be activated. In this research, players must challenge and defeat Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra – three leaders of Team Rocket. Successfully doing so will grant you a Super Rocket Radar, which can then be used to find the whereabouts of Giovanni, the boss of Team Rocket.

During the recent Takeover Event, Giovani’s Squad is expected to feature: Shadow Persian, either Shadow Nidoking, Kangaskhan, or Rhyperior, and Shadow Giratina. Players might want to assemble a team with Machamp to tackle Shadow Persian, choices like Mega Rayquaza, Black Kyurem, or Mega Garchomp for dealing with Shadow Giratina, and either Swampert or Excadrill to handle Nidoking and Rhyperior.
More affordable squads might consider adding Lucario (with Force Palm and Aura Sphere) to tackle Persian and Kangaskhan, Garchomp/Shadow Garchomp (using Mud Shot and Earthquake) for dealing with Nidoking and Rhyperior, and Mega-Gengar (equipped with Lick and Shadow Ball) to combat Shadow Giratina.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that the specifics of Giovanni’s Lineup may differ slightly from what’s presented here, and any updates made to this information will be incorporated as necessary to reflect these potential variations.
At this gathering, participants can take advantage of a Charged Technical Machine (TM) to transform the Frustration-charged move from any Shadow-type Pokémon into something else.
Shiny Salandit and Shiny Shadow Kyogre Debut in Pokemon GO

During the upcoming Taken Over event in Pokemon GO, two rare Shinies will debut. One of them is the elusive Shiny Salandit, which can be hatched from 12-km eggs starting August 11, 2025. Avid players who have Incubators at the ready and manage to gather eggs during this event might find themselves with a small but exciting opportunity to snag one of Generation 7’s most sought-after Shinies. If fortune favors them enough to hatch a female Shiny Salandit, they can then evolve it into the stunning Shiny Salazzle, as male Shiny Salandits do not transform.
In addition, we have the other variant called Radiant Phantom Kyogre, set to make its entrance during Shadow Raids, commencing on August 16, 2025 at 6 AM local time and concluding on August 17, 2025 at 10 PM local time. Trainiers have a unique opportunity to secure a Shiny Shadow Kyogre, however, they’ll need to join forces with their most powerful Pokemon to overcome this Legendary that boasts shadow energy.
