Pokemon GO Teases New Poke Ball for Upcoming Event

Key Takeaways

  • Pokemon GO is introducing the Safari Ball during the Wild Area event, making it the seventh type of ball in the game.
  • The Safari Balls will be highly effective in catching powerful Pokemon, but it is unclear if they will be available after the event.
  • Niantic chose to debut Safari Balls in the Wild Area event instead of the Safari Zone events that focus on region-specific Pokemon.

As a seasoned Pokemon GO enthusiast with over five years of catching ’em all under my belt, I must say that the introduction of the Safari Ball during the Wild Area event is nothing short of exhilarating! It’s been a long wait for this seventh type of ball to join our arsenal, and while I’ve managed to catch quite a few Pokemon with the more common Poke Balls, Great Balls, and Ultra Balls, the thought of catching powerful Pokemon with ease using Safari Balls is music to my ears.

Starting November 23rd, I’m super excited that as a Pokemon GO gamer, I’ll get to use a brand-new type of Poke Ball – the Safari Ball! This is part of the global launch of the Wild Area event. It’s going to be exciting to see how this seventh ball performs in my augmented reality adventures. However, it seems that only three out of the six types of Poke Balls available in Pokemon GO are easily accessible for most players like me.

The special Pokemon GO event called “The Wild Area” is set to be rolled out first in Fukuoka, Japan on November 16-17, and later globally from November 23-24. Although the dates for this event have been announced since late August, details about what players will encounter during these two days are scarce, with Niantic, the game’s developer, revealing very little information so far.

Information about the upcoming Safari Balls was shared on the game’s official Twitter account on October 3rd. The social media team hasn’t disclosed many details yet, such as how they will appear in the mobile game or whether they’ll only be available during the event or later as well. A circular silhouette next to the event logo is all that has been shown so far, hinting at a possible continuation of the green forest camouflage look from previous Pokemon games’ Safari Zones. It remains unclear if these balls will exclusively be obtainable during the special event or if players can get them afterwards too. What has been confirmed is that these balls are expected to be highly effective and will facilitate catching strong Pokemon effortlessly, although their specific stats in comparison to more commonly found balls are yet to be disclosed.

Pokemon GO is Finally Introducing Safari Balls

It’s worth noting that Niantic decided to introduce Safari Balls during the upcoming event instead of during the Pokemon Go Safari Zone or City Safari special events. The Safari Zone events were initially announced in 2017, allowing players who bought digital tickets in selected cities worldwide to catch regional Pokemon not typically found in their areas. A total of 23 such events have taken place since the inaugural event in Germany, France, and Spain, with the latest Pokemon Go Safari Zone events happening in September in South Korea and Indonesia.

The news of a new ball type in Pokemon GO is nothing to scoff at. The only readily available balls are the Poke Ball, Great Ball, and Ultra Ball, which players can get as level-up rewards or by spinning Poke Stops. Premier Balls can only be used after raid or Team GO Rocket battles, with Beast Balls serving a similar function when trying to capture Ultra Beasts. Pokemon GO‘s Master Ball is the newest ball type currently in the game, and while it’s guaranteed to catch whatever it’s thrown at, players have only had three opportunities to get their hands on one.
