The much-anticipated prequel to “The Hunger Games,” titled “Sunrise on the Reaping,” is set to hit theaters once more. This film is based on Suzanne Collins’ latest bestselling book of the same name, which was released on March 18, 2025. During its first week, it sold an impressive 1.2 million copies. As a sequel to “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” (2023), “Sunrise on the Reaping” unfolds events that transpired 40 years prior to the original “Hunger Games” trilogy. The story revolves around the character of young Haymitch, who was portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the original series as the only survivor from District 12 before Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). For months, fans have been speculating about who would play young Haymitch, and Lionsgate has now announced their choice for the role.
