One delightful aspect of Pokemon GO’s Community Day events is the unique chances they offer for players. While not every Community Day-chosen Pokemon is exceptionally rare, these events consistently provide players with the exciting prospect of discovering new shimmering variations, or “shinies”. It’s no wonder that fans eagerly anticipate this monthly Pokemon GO event. After all, the objective is to amass as many of these creatures as possible – “Gotta Catch ’em all!
However, the Pokemon chosen for February 2025’s Community Day event might pose certain challenges for players. Interestingly, this predicament is strikingly reminiscent of one that current Pokemon TCG Pocket players are experiencing. To fill up their Pokedex, it appears that trading in both Pokemon GO and Pokemon TCG Pocket will be more crucial than simply catching Pokemon.
February’s Spotlighted Pokemon Could Frustrate Players
The Community Day event in February 2025 highlights two specific Pokémon, Shelmet and Karrablast, in the popular game Pokémon GO. In past Community Day events, only one Pokémon was promoted each month. However, on some occasions, like December Community Days, more than one Pokémon has been featured. These two Pokémon may not seem very exciting, but they share a significant trait: both can be evolved through trading or by using 200 candy, which is higher than the usual candy requirement for most Pokémon (ranging from 50 to 100 candy). While there are other Pokémon that also require a high amount of candy to evolve, like Magikarp, many Pokémon can be evolved with fewer candies.
The expensive candies required for evolution by Shelmet and Karrablast make their trade-based evolution method even more appealing. However, for Pokemon GO players who haven’t connected with other trainers, trading may not be an option. Luckily, the rise in the number of both Karrablast and Shelmet spotted in the wild during the Community Day event makes the 200 candy hurdle seem less challenging.
However, players opting for trading during February 2025’s Community Day event might encounter some challenges. The cost of Shiny Pokemon in Stardust is quite high, regardless of whether the base Pokemon is common or not. If your goal is to add a Shiny Escavalier or Shiny Accelgor to your Pokedex, be ready to accumulate plenty of candy to prevent wasting thousands of Stardust.
Trading is Frustrating Players Across Pokemon Titles
The trading system in Pokemon GO isn’t the only one causing frustration; it’s also an issue with the recent update in Pokemon TCG Pocket. Unlike Pokemon GO, which only needs Stardust for trades, Pokemon TCG Pocket uses two distinct currencies, Hourglasses and Trade Tokens, for most trades. Both games require more currency depending on the rarity of the Pokemon. While trading isn’t the primary focus in Pokemon GO, it is in Pokemon TCG Pocket, given its name. This high hurdle for one of Pokemon TCG Pocket’s main features has left players perplexed and irritated.
As a passionate filmgoer, I find the player response to the trading dilemma in TCG Pocket intriguing, hinting at how we might react during the upcoming Community Day in February. Unlike Pokemon GO players who can evolve any Karrablast or Shelmet with 200 candy, TCG Pocket players don’t have that luxury. Regrettably, no viable alternative appears to be currently available for TCG Pocket players, nor is there any indication of one being in the works.
In Pokemon GO, although gameplay mechanics like trading might not be the central focus, it’s still a vital part that players shouldn’t find too challenging. Participants in the February 2025 Community Event on February 9 should remember to gather plenty of candy and stardust to help evolve their Karrablasts or Shelmets.
