Pokemon Legends: Z-A is reinventing the Pokemon experience, but some things stay the same. Like Poke Balls! There are many different kinds, and each one has a special ability to help trainers catch even the rarest Pokemon hiding around Lumiose City.
Our guide covers everything about Poke Balls! You’ll discover how to obtain each type, what they’re used for, and where to find more in the game.
All Poke Ball Types & Where to Find Them in Pokemon Legends Z-A

How to Use Poke Balls in Pokemon Legends Z-A
In *Pokemon Legends Z-A*, to throw a Poke Ball, you need to have one in your inventory and get close to a Pokemon. Aim by holding the ZL button, and then press ZR to throw the ball.
Trainers are more likely to catch Pokémon if they lower the Pokémon’s health first. This creates a brief opportunity – about 3.5 seconds – to catch it, indicated by a swirling stars effect, similar to what happens when a Pokémon is confused. However, after just one attempt, a Pokémon weakened this way will run away.
As a big fan, I’m really excited about the new way to catch Pokémon! You can now sneak up on them and throw a Poké Ball before they even notice you, which is awesome for catching those speedy ones. Some Pokémon, like Abra, actually *require* this surprise attack because they’ll teleport away if you try to fight them normally. The Quick Ball is perfect for this – it has the best chance of working on the very first turn, and these surprise throws basically count as happening *before* the battle even starts, which is a neat little trick!
