The Mega Dimension DLC for
Pokemon Legends: Z-A
is launching tomorrow, and it’s now confirmed that the original Hoenn starters and their Mega Evolutions will be included – with a twist. Released about two months after the main game, the DLC adds lots of new content, brings back familiar Pokemon, and features nearly 20 unique Mega Evolutions. Players will be able to explore a mysterious place called Hyperspace Lumiose, unlocked by Hoopa’s abilities, which are enhanced through a new, fun minigame where you bake and feed donuts to the Pokemon.
The upcoming DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A will introduce several new features. Players will be able to temporarily level up their Pokemon beyond the usual cap of 100, and will face a series of challenges in a special area called Hyperspace Lumiose to unlock new areas and Pokemon. The DLC will also include challenging boss battles against Pokemon with new Mega Evolutions. Leaks suggest a significant addition of 19 new Mega Evolutions, including some for popular Legendary and Mythical Pokemon like Darkrai, Heatran, Zeraora, and Magearna. Plus, all previously available Mega Evolutions, such as Mega Sceptile, Mega Blaziken, and Mega Swampert, are expected to return.
Say Goodbye to Mega Sceptile, Mega Swampert, and Mega Blaziken in 2025
Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip are fan-favorite starter Pokémon, so many players were upset they weren’t in Pokémon Legends: Z-A at first. With other Pokémon from the Hoenn region – including Latias, Latios, and Rayquaza, as well as their Mega Evolutions – also missing, players hoped the Gen 3 starters would eventually be added. Now it’s confirmed: you’ll be able to play as Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert, and even use their Mega Evolutions!
However, getting this wish fulfilled comes with a catch. These rewards will only be available through online ranked battles, similar to items like Greninite, Delphoxite, and Chesnaughtite. Here’s how they’ll be distributed:
- Mega Sceptile/Sceptilite: During Season 5, 6, and 7
- Mega Swampert/Swampertite: During Season 6 and 7
- Mega Blaziken/Blazikenite: During Season 7
Dedicated Pokémon players have noticed a wait between the end of the current ranked season in Pokémon Legends: Z-A (Season 3) and when Mega Sceptile will be released. This is because Mega Sceptile will be unlocked through Season 4, which begins on December 17th and will initially award the Mega Stone for Baxcalibur. Considering seasons usually last three weeks, it’s expected that Mega Evolutions for the Hoenn starters won’t be available until around January 7th or 8th, 2026.
Fans hoping to use their favorite starter Pokémon from Generation 3 in the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be disappointed. This is similar to what happened with Generation 6 starters, but it’s still frustrating. Blaziken fans, in particular, will be upset, as Mega Blaziken might not be available until February 18, 2026 – over two months from now.
It doesn’t seem like the way seasons and rewards work in Pokemon Legends: Z-A will change soon, so even if the Gen 3 starters are added with the DLC, their Mega Stones won’t be available right away. The good news is that it will be much faster to unlock the Mega Stones for Mega Sceptile, Mega Swampert, and Mega Blaziken compared to how it was to get Greninjite in Season 1 – the required ranks are much lower now.
