Pokemon Legends: Z-A Confirms The Series’ Worst Type

In the latest Pokemon Presents direct held in July, Pokemon Legends: Z-A made a reappearance, revealing several new and returning features for its upcoming launch on October 16, available on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. A significant aspect of the game that has many fans eagerly anticipating it is the inclusion of fresh Mega Evolutions, as the recent trailer verified the leaked Mega Dragonite along with the other 25 Megas. Since they stem from the same source, this suggests that Pokemon Legends: Z-A is hinting at one of the series’ types being less popular or underwhelming.

In the Pokemon universe, types significantly influence battles across all series, since certain types excel against others or are vulnerable to specific ones. Each type possesses unique weaknesses, resistances, and strengths that deal double damage in some cases. Consequently, some types might be considered superior or inferior overall. The upcoming game Pokemon Legends: Z-A will modify battles by making them more interactive and responsive, but types will continue to play a crucial role in determining the amount of damage inflicted or sustained. Given the current type balance and the fewest Mega Evolutions assigned to it, Ice remains the least powerful type overall.

Why Ice is The Worst Pokemon Type in The Series

In most Pokemon games, the optimal type pairings usually involve two powerful types individually. Conversely, poor combinations tend to feature types that are weak on their own. One of the least effective type combinations in the series is Bug/Ice, which is often regarded as the poorest due to both types being generally considered the weakest in the game. While opinions may differ as to which is worse between Bug and Ice, Ice tends to be seen as the worst because it takes double damage from four different types and only resists against itself.

Why Pokemon Legends: Z-A Spells Bad News For Ice-Type Fans

In the recently leaked 26 new Mega Evolutions from “Pokemon Legends: Z-A,” only one creature transforms into an Ice-type, specifically Froslass, which is both Ice and Ghost. The number of Pokemon from Generation 6 titles with Ice as one of their types that have Mega Evolutions isn’t substantial. Currently, there are only two Ice-type Pokemon with Mega Evolutions: Glalie and Abomasnow. Some people speculate that the leaked Mega Froslass is essentially completing Snorunt’s evolution line as a Mega Evolution. Regardless, Ice currently has the fewest Mega Evolutions in both “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” and throughout the entire series.

In the upcoming game Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it’s said there will be 1 Mega Evolution for Ice, Bug, Rock, and Electric types. Currently, there are 2 Ice Pokemon, 4 Bug, 3 Rock, and 2 Electric Megas. This means that after the release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Ice and Electric types will have the fewest Mega Evolutions with a total of 3 each.

Z-A), which suggests that it might be one of the weakest types in the series when considering support. Unless leaks about upcoming changes are incorrect, which seems unlikely given their accuracy so far, Ice-type enthusiasts may find themselves disappointed with the performance of these Pokemon.
