Major Details Revealed in Pokemon Legends: Z-A Gameplay Demo
Participants, including Anthony Taormina, Editor-in-Chief at Game Rant, were given permission to capture and share their experience of the Pokemon Legends: Z-A live demonstration. During this, it became clear that Lumiose City’s map consists of approximately 10 distinct zones, containing at least 6 Wild Areas and 9 Pokemon Centers. However, the specific number and characteristics of the Wild Areas may shift as the story progresses. Pokemon gathered in a Wild Area can be spotted on the map when hovering over that particular location.
It appears that within the game, scrolling through the menu suggests that Pokemon may not have abilities. However, Natures and Held Items are still present. The recent leak of “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” seems to be confirmed as TM Moves and learned moves can now be managed from a single screen. Additionally, certain locations seemed obstructed by piles of rocks, suggesting a move like “Rock Smash” might be needed to pass. Lastly, it looks like you can obtain Mega Stones either by gathering Mega Shards or defeating bosses.

As a dedicated gamer diving into the thrilling world of battles, I’ve noticed an intriguing system at play. Each move seems to have its unique cool-down period, with mightier Pokémon moves taking longer to recharge in Z-A. Switching Pokémon mid-brawl is a swift, instantaneous action. Pausing the game allows for the strategic use of bag items, although this triggers a roughly 10-second cooldown timer.
In the heat of battle, any stat changes experienced by my Pokémon are clearly displayed beneath their health meter, with handy arrows showing whether those stats have risen or fallen. XP points are generously shared among my party members, with the victorious Pokémon pocketing approximately double the rewards. Lastly, landing a surprise attack triggers the “First Strike” bonus, boosting damage dealt.
In the second segment of the demonstration, it showcased the functionality of Mega-Evolved Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Of particular note is that only Mega-Evolved Pokemon appear capable of inflicting significant damage on Rogues. Moreover, Mega-Evolution within Z-A appears to be achieved by accumulating energy in a meter through gathering orbs dropped by Rogues upon receiving damage. Trainer’s Pokemon are allowed to Mega Evolve but have a one-minute timer when activated, which can be extended by collecting additional orbs. It was also clarified that players may activate Mega Evolution multiple times during the same battle. Lastly, vanquishing a Rogue grants players a Mega Stone of the relevant type.
