Pokemon Legends Z-A Electric-type Tier List

Pokemon Legends Z-A has significantly altered how the game plays, especially in battles. This means the best Electric-type Pokemon for your team might be different than before. The biggest change is that Pokemon Abilities are no longer in the game. With this new battle system, it’s tough to gauge how effective Electric-types will be, since they traditionally rely on quick, powerful attacks. Moves like Thunder are now easier for opponents to avoid, making it more challenging than ever to build a strong Electric-type team.

This guide highlights the strongest Electric-type Pokémon in Pokémon Legends Z-A. We’ll look at how useful they are in battles, whether they perform well in player-versus-player (PvP) and player-versus-environment (PvE) modes, their best moves, and if they can Mega Evolve or utilize powerful, currently effective strategies. Here’s a rundown of the top Electric-type attackers you can find in Pokémon Legends Z-A, starting with the very best.

S-Tier Electric-type In Pokemon Legends Z-A

Here are some of the best Electric Pokemon for competitive play in Pokemon Legends-ZA, along with recommended builds to help you create a strong late-game team.

Mega

(With Light Ball)

  • Mega Eelektross is the safe choice, combining decent levels of Atk and SpA, and can be built as a Hybrid attacker with Crunch, Liquidation, Thunderbolt, and Charge. (Recommended Natures: Quiet/Brave – Recommended EV Spread: 252 HP/ 252 Atk or SpA/4SpDef).
  • Mega Ampharos is stronger in terms of Special Attack, so build it for that. Use the following moveset: Power Gem, Dragon Pulse, Thunderbolt, Light Screen. (Recommended Nature: Modest – Recommended EV Spread: 252 HP/ 252 SpA/ 4 Def).
  • Mega Manectric is the fastest pure Electric Type of Legends Z-A, and has access to a few coverage moves of the Fire-type. Use this moveset to make it stronger in both competitive and PvE: Charge, Thunderbolt, Volt Switch, Overheat. (Recommended Nature: Modest/Timid – Recommended EV Spread: 252 HP/ 252 Speed/ 4 HP).
  • Pikachu is back to action with its glass-cannon build thanks to the held item Light Orb (World’s Greatest Pikachu Mission), which doubles its Atk and SpAtk stats. This gives trainers the chance to build an uber-trained Pikachu with the correct Ev values and moveset to surprise their rivals and sweep them before they know what’s going on. Pick this moveset: Volt Tackle, Iron Tail (or Surf), Dig, and Brick Break. (Recommended Nature: Modest/Timid – Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA or Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 HP).

Where to Get Mega Eelektross, Ampharos, Manectric, and Pikachu

You can get Eelektross by evolving Eelektrik with a Thunder Stone. Eelektrik can be found in the wild. To turn Eelektross into Mega Eelektross, you’ll need to obtain the Eelektrossite from Quasartico Inc. and spend 240 Mega Shards.

You can get Ampharos by catching a Mareep early in the game and evolving it. First, Mareep evolves into Flaaffy at level 15, and then Flaaffy evolves into Ampharos at level 30. To get Mega Ampharos, you’ll need an Ampharosite, which you can obtain by completing Main Mission #23: A Rogue Mega Ampharos.

Okay, so if you want a Manectric, you’ll need to catch an Electrike and level it up to 26. If you’re aiming for Mega Manectric, you can snag the Manectite from Quasartico Inc. – it’ll cost you 180 Mega Shards, though!

Pikachu is simple to catch and train. You can find it wandering around, or evolve it from a Pokémon found in Wild Zone 1.

The current S-Tier rankings will be updated when the Mega Dimension X DLC is released. This is because the DLC adds new Electric-type Pokémon, such as Mega Raichu X and Y, which will impact the rankings.

A-Tier Electric-type In Pokemon Legends Z-A

While decent in the middle and later parts of Legends Z-A, Electric-type Pokémon in the lower tiers can be difficult to build for competitive battles. Ideally, players want to use top-tier Pokémon, but ultimately, using your favorites is what being a Pokémon Trainer is all about.

  • Jolteon ranks relatively high in terms of speed, getting priority in most encounters, so it can build to deflect with Protect, Electro Web, Thunderbolt, and Shadow Ball or Hyper Voice for some extra coverage just in case. (Recommended Nature: Modest/Timid – Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA / 252 Speed/ 4 HP).
  • Raichu is not as powerful as one should expect, but it will become even stronger once its Mega Evolutions are released. A skilled trainer can make the most out of it by using the following moveset: Thunder Wave, Charge, Thunderbolt, Surf. (Recommended Nature: Modest/Timid/Mild/Rash – Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA / 252 Speed/ 4 HP).
  • Heliolisk is an interesting Pokemon due to its dual typing and its access to certain coverage moves. But it’s not so great in terms of competitive value. Build it with the following moveset: Charge, Volt Switch, Solar Beam, Thunderbolt. (Recommended Nature: Timid/Rash – Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA / 252 Speed/ 4 HP).
  • Alolan Raichu is the black horse in terms of coverage and adaptability. Thanks to its dual-type, it can learn certain moves that make it an interesting choice for late-game PvE or some strategies in Ranked Battles. Here’s its ideal moveset: Play Rough, Charge, Thunder Punch or Thunderbolt, Psyshock or Discharge. (Recommended Nature: Timid/Modest – Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA or Atk / 252 Speed/ 4 HP).

Where to Get Jolteon, Raichu, Alolan Raichu, and Heliolisk

To evolve Eevee into Jolteon, you’ll need a Thunder Stone. You can find Eevee spawning in the area and also roaming in the small garden just north of the Pokemon Center. Access to the garden is easy through the alley south of the Center. Keep in mind that Eevee only appears when the weather is sunny.

You can find Raichu in its Alpha form, but you can also start with a Pichu in Wild Zone 1 and evolve it into Pikachu by maximizing its friendship level. Then, use a Thunder Stone to evolve Pikachu into Raichu. Pikachu also appears in Wild Zone 3.

Players can obtain Heliolisk by catching a Skrelp, which only appears when the weather is Sunny in Pokémon games. However, finding a shiny Skrelp is extremely rare because they are very uncommon.

You can get an Alolan Raichu by finishing the side quest “Alola, Raichu!” You’ll need to trade a standard Raichu to receive the Alolan version.

B-Tier and Lower Electric-type In Pokemon Legends Z-A

Let’s look at the remaining Electric-type Pokémon in Legends Z-A. While most fall into lower tiers (B, C, and D) and aren’t very useful for competitive play or completing the game – often because they evolve into stronger forms – three stand out as potentially helpful due to their secondary types: Emolga, Dedenne, and Stunfisk.

  • Emolga is difficult to catch at the start of the adventure and not particularly strong, but it can be trained properly to reach acceptable power levels. Try the following moveset: Air Slash, Nuzzle, Volt Switch, and Energy Ball for coverage. (Recommended Nature: Timid/Modest – Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA / 252 Speed/ 4 HP).
  • Dedenne is unique in terms of typing (at least in Legends Z-A) and can learn a fair amount of coverage moves. Use the following moveset: Dazzling Gleam, Parabolic Charge, Charge, Discharge. (Recommended Nature: Timid/Modest – Recommended EV Spread: 252 SpA / 252 HP/ 4 Speed).
  • Stunfisk has always been a curious case of opposite types merged in one (Electric/Ground), but this also makes it vulnerable to Grass, Water, Ice, and Ground, so its viability is questionable. However, in competitive, it’s a good Stealth Rock deployer and defensive Pokemon. Here’s its ideal moveset: Stealth Rock, Protect, Discharge, Earthquake. (Recommended Nature: Relaxed/Sassy – Recommended EV Spread: 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 SpA).

Where to Get Emolga, Dedenne, and Stunfisk

You can find Emolga wandering on the rooftops in Wild Zone 3. To increase your chances of finding its Shiny form, use the Holovator west of the Square Tower. Check especially around the rooftop near the street market alley to spot it.

You can find Dedenne on the rooftops near Cafe Triste in Lumiose City’s Magenta Sector, which is on the northwestern side. To get there, head to that area and go south to find a way up to the rooftops where Dedenne appears.

Stunfisk is the simplest of these Pokémon to catch. You can often find groups of them hidden in the reeds along the riverbank. Be aware that this area has many aggressive Pokémon, particularly the Alpha Clawitzer.

The pre-evolved Electric-type Pokémon – Pichu, Tynamo, Eelektrik, Helioptile, Electrike, Mareep, and Flaffy – aren’t generally strong enough to be effective in battles, as their evolved forms are much more powerful.
