I’m really excited to jump back into the Kalos region with Pokemon Legends: Z-A and finally explore Lumiose City properly! But I’ve been checking out the Pokedex, and it looks like some Pokemon types are way more common than others. Honestly, it’s a little disappointing – I was hoping to build a team around some of my favorites, but it seems like they’re seriously underrepresented in this game. It might be tough to find enough of the Pokemon I really like to make a well-rounded team.
Building a strong team in *Pokemon Legends: Z-A* requires careful planning and a variety of Pokemon types. Having access to many different Pokemon helps players create a balanced team with both strong attacks and solid defenses. While the game features 234 Pokemon, the Ice type is the least common, so players will need to be strategic if they want to include one on their team.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Has Bad News for Ice-Type Fans
Ice-type Pokémon aren’t known for being particularly durable, as they’re weak to four different attack types and only resist one. However, they excel as offensive Pokémon, effectively hitting Ground, Grass, Flying, and Dragon types. This makes them great choices for players who want a powerful but fragile attacker. Interestingly, Lumiose City doesn’t seem to be a welcoming environment for Ice-type Pokémon, with only 14 different species appearing there.

Only 14 Ice-Type Pokémon are Obtainable in Legends: Z-A
- Delibird
- Snorunt
- Glalie
- Froslass
- Snover
- Abomasnow
- Glaceon
- Vanillite
- Vanillish
- Vanilluxe
- Amaura
- Aurorus
- Bergmite
- Avalugg

Compared to *Pokémon X and Y*, which featured 24 Ice-type Pokémon, *Legends: Z-A* has fewer choices. Popular options like Weavile, Lapras, and Mamoswine aren’t available in the game, even though the Kalos region includes well-known icy areas like Dendemille City and Frost Cavern. It seems these Pokémon couldn’t adapt to living near Lumiose City. If you want an Ice-type on your team, Froslass, Glalie, and Abomasnow are your best bets.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Still Has a Silver Lining for Ice-Types

Even though there are fewer Ice-type Pokémon overall in *Pokémon Legends: Z-A*, fans of the type still have plenty to be excited about. The game features a significant three Mega Evolutions for Ice-types – a great number considering how many Pokémon are in the game. Not only are two familiar Mega Evolutions returning, but Ice-type Pokémon also get one of the brand-new Mega Evolutions introduced in *Pokémon Legends: Z-A*.
- Mega Glalie
- Mega Abomasnow
- Mega Froslass (New to Legends: Z-A)
In *Pokemon Legends: Z-A*, Mega Froslass really stands out as the best Ice-type Pokemon. This is the first time this Mega Evolution has appeared in a game, and it makes a strong impression! It’s incredibly fast and focuses on Special Attack, plus its Ghost and Ice typing gives it a wide range of powerful moves.

Compared to Mega Glalie and Mega Abomasnow, Mega Froslass is a stronger choice for players who want to maximize damage with Special attacks. Both Glalie and Abomasnow split their attack power between Physical and Special, but they also have slower speed and more weaknesses than Froslass. Even though there aren’t many Ice-type Pokémon in the game, Mega Froslass gives Ice-type fans something to look forward to in *Legends: Z-A*.
