In the expansive world of Pokémon, there are always some characters that don’t receive as much attention as they deserve. For instance, certain single-form creatures might go unnoticed by Game Freak when they’re expanding a region’s Pokédex. However, after years of waiting in the background, Hawlucha is finally getting some spotlight in “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”. Although it’s not the most obscure Pokémon, it has definitely been seeking more development for quite some time now.
Introduced back in Generation 6, the Pokemon known for wrestling hasn’t undergone any evolution or changes since then, spanning over a decade now. Despite this, it’s been a regular feature in most primary games since its debut, even following the removal of the National Dex from these games. While some players may have developed negative opinions towards the feathery wrestler due to its aggressive behavior in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, where it’s found chasing and yelling at the player, Pokemon Legends: Z-A offers a chance for redemption. This game uniquely fills in the blanks of Hawlucha’s history.
How Hawlucha is Getting a Deserved Redemption Arc in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Following numerous adventures spanning various regions, Hawlucha’s Mega Evolution occurs upon returning to Kalos. Notably, Mega Diancie is the sole other Mega Pokemon from Generation 6 up until this point. Upon transformation, its typing remains unchanged, but it adopts a mask-like appearance reminiscent of a wrestler, giving it a secondary mask in a unique way.
According to recent rumors, it appears that Mega Hawlucha and Mega Diancie may not be the only Mega Evolutions introduced in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

There isn’t much information available about Mega Hawlucha apart from what is written on the official Pokemon Legends: Z-A website’s Pokédex entries. However, it is said that undergoing this transformation increases both its Attack and Defense. It seems plausible that these descriptions are truthful, but we’re unsure by how much its stats will be boosted.
As a dedicated Pokémon trainer, I’m pretty pumped about the possibility that my beloved Hawlucha might just become a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming Pokémon Champions game next year. With a bit of luck, its stats could get such a boost that it’ll hold its own competitively.
As for Mega Hawlucha, well, how it fares is anyone’s guess really. It all comes down to a multitude of factors in Pokémon Champions and even Legends: Z-A. So, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the devs have cooked up something truly spectacular!
Why Mega Hawlucha is Already a Big Fan Favorite

Due to the unveiling of Mega Hawlucha, a massive wave of excitement sweeps through its fans. Its mega form intensifies the appeal that even surpassed its original design. Some are simply grateful as Mega Hawlucha ended the continuous trend of only Kanto Pokemon receiving Mega evolutions. Consequently, Mega Hawlucha has gained a sense of heroic esteem among fans, representing a stark contrast to earlier perceptions and potentially serving as the rehabilitation it requires.
This latest change underscores not only the passage of time since the release of Pokemon X and Y, but also the progress Hawlucha has made since its initial unveiling. Many seasoned Pokemon players might recall a moment of surprise upon encountering the Wrestling Pokemon in Kalos, given its unexpected appearance there.
Instead, Hawlucha’s presence in Kalos suggests that the roots of masked wrestling can be traced back to France, contrary to the widespread perception that luchadors started it. So, it’s logical that there was no other game but Pokemon Legends: Z-A for Hawlucha to evolve further. Let’s hope Mega Hawlucha is an indication that more single-stage Pokemon will have their moment in the spotlight in the future.
