The current season (Season 8) of Ranked Battles in Pokémon Legends: Z-A will finish on April 1st, and Season 9 will start right away. Just to be clear, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke! The game’s schedule has always shown Season 8 ending and Season 9 beginning on April 1st, and previous seasons have followed this pattern.
For those who follow the game, Season 8 of the Ranked Battles in Pokemon Legends: Z-A was unique. It allowed players to earn a lot of Mega Shards – which can be traded for powerful items like Mega Stones and Exp. Candy – but with some tough restrictions. The season began on March 11th and will end on April 1st at 7 PM Pacific Time / 10 PM Eastern Time. This season only allowed the use of Mega Evolutions, a feature first added in Pokemon Legends: Z-A or its Mega Dimension DLC. However, Season 9 will be a standard season, without those limitations.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Season 9 Kicks Off April 1
The update will go live on April 1st at 7 PM Pacific Time / 10 PM Eastern Time, marking the end of Season 8 and the beginning of Season 9. It will remain active until April 22nd at the same time, giving players three weeks to improve their rank and win.
Once Season 8 ends, claim your rewards by going to Linked Play, then Ranked Battles. You’ll receive Mega Shards for Pokémon Legends: Z-A!
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Season 9 Promotion Rewards
As players climb the ranks in the game, they’ll earn rewards. Specifically, between Rank Y and Rank S, players will be able to unlock Mega Stones, allowing them to achieve new Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

How to Play Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Ranked Battles
Ranked Battles let you compete against Trainers worldwide in fast-paced, four-player online matches. You begin at Rank Z and can climb the ladder to Rank A, much like the progression in the Pokemon Legends: Z-A story. As you improve, you’ll earn three kinds of rewards: rewards after each battle, rewards for ranking up, and rewards at the end of each season.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Best Pokemon for Ranked Meta Prepares You for Season 9
Okay, so I’m really curious to see how things shake out in Pokemon Legends: Z-A Season 9, especially when it comes to the meta. But Season 8 definitely felt like a good practice run for dealing with Mega Pokemon. It was a pretty unique season because only Pokemon from the original game and its DLC were really viable, and they had to be holding their Mega Stones to compete. Because of that, I think most of us have a pretty solid understanding of how the best Mega Evolutions actually work now, which should give us a head start!
- Mega Skarmory dominated the meta with strong bulk and setup options
- Mega Baxcalibur has powerful physical attacks and can be used against many common threats
- Mega Magearna remains a top special attacker with excellent defenses
- Mega Garchomp Z is a unique mixed offense attacker
- Mega Absol Z is a glass cannon
- Mega Zygrade can tear through teams when used effectively
- Mega Golisopod and Mega Heatran represent lower tiers with niche roles and major weaknesses
- Mega Lucario Z is good for high damage output
- Mega Raichu Y, Mega Scovillain, Mega Malamar, and Mega Pyroar struggled in Season 8.
The restrictions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A Season 8 highlighted the strengths of some top Mega Pokémon while exposing weaknesses in others as players competed in ranked matches. However, these limitations were ultimately beneficial. They helped players understand how to use different Mega Pokémon more effectively and revealed strategies for countering the strongest ones. This knowledge will be valuable in future seasons, allowing players to better prepare against their opponents.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Season 9 Meta
Okay, so Season 9 for Pokemon Legends: Z-A is looking really good! It sounds like the meta is opening up, which means we’ll see way more different Pokemon and team builds in battles. Mega Evolutions will still be strong, but it won’t just be about them anymore. That’s awesome because it gives some of the less-used Pokemon a chance to really shine. When the season starts, I’m planning to build a balanced team that can handle both Mega Evolutions and anything else people throw at me. Gotta stay flexible and know what counters what as I climb the ranks, you know?
Okay, so the new season of Pokemon Legends: Z-A is here, and it’s all about knowing when to change up your team, how to position yourself, and finding what your opponent’s Pokemon are weak to. If you were really good in Season 8, you’ll probably have a head start because you’ll be better at guessing what other players are going to do and using the strongest Pokemon. Basically, Season 9 is about thinking ahead and being able to adjust. Whether you’re trying to hit Rank A or just want fun battles, being prepared for anything will make things way easier and more satisfying.
