A recent leak reveals that *Pokemon Legends: Z-A*, launching October 16th, will automatically save the game constantly. While we don’t know how often it will save, this feature could be annoying for players who enjoy the challenge of hunting for rare, shiny Pokemon.
Automatic saving has been a common feature in role-playing games, including previous Nintendo titles like *The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild*. The *Pokemon* series first included this option in *Pokemon Sword and Shield*, where it was turned on automatically, but players could also choose to save manually. *Pokemon Scarlet and Violet* continue to use auto-saving, but now the game also saves automatically during specific moments, like when connecting to the internet, trading Pokemon, or finishing an online Tera Raid battle.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Players Can’t Turn Off Auto-Saving at All
The upcoming *Pokémon Legends: Z-A* will still let players find Shiny Pokémon, but a recent change might make it harder. The game will now automatically save frequently, and players won’t be able to turn this feature off. According to information shared on Twitter by Centro, the only customizable settings will be text speed, minimap rotation, and controller vibration. This has upset some *Pokémon* fans, as they rely on repeatedly resetting the game to find specific Shiny Pokémon or Starter Pokémon with desired traits. With auto-saving always on, this process will likely require starting completely new save files each time, making it much more time-consuming.

Copies of *Pokemon Legends: Z-A* were released early, several days before its official launch on October 16th, causing a leak. Players who pre-ordered the game on the Nintendo eShop were able to download it ahead of time, and have already begun exploring the game’s files. Currently, the version of *Pokemon Legends: Z-A* for the Nintendo Switch 2 needs at least 7.7 GB of free space.

Even before its release, *Pokemon Legends: Z-A* is facing criticism due to changes in how buffs and debuffs work in the game. It remains to be seen if the developers will allow players to turn auto-saving on or off, a feature some trainers want back.
