Okay, so it looks like we might not get a totally *new* Pokemon generation in 2025, but I’m honestly really excited about *Pokemon Legends: Z-A*! It counts as a main series game, and from what I’ve seen, it’s really changing things up. Remember how in *Pokemon Legends: Arceus* the tall grass was a safe space? That was cool! But *Z-A* is taking it even further by ditching turn-based battles for real-time combat – dodging, cooldowns, the whole nine yards! And, even better, they’re bringing back a customization feature that was missing in the last generation, which is awesome. I’m really looking forward to seeing how it all plays out!
Whether due to the games’ focus on school life or limitations in development, *Pokémon Scarlet and Violet* restricted character customization to school uniforms and a few accessories. This was a significant reduction in player freedom compared to earlier *Pokémon* games. Furthermore, the lack of clothing options like skirts and dresses – which had been available for ten years – removed choices that had previously promoted inclusivity and female empowerment.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Brings Back Skirts and Dresses

The return of skirts and dresses in *Pokemon Legends: Z-A* is a great step for the series. It lets players personalize their characters more freely, moving away from just school uniform options. While *Pokemon* games are often aimed at younger audiences, many long-time fans are young adults or adults who’ve enjoyed the games for years. It’s good that they now have more ways to express themselves through character customization. Skirts and dresses aren’t tied to any specific age group, and *Pokemon Legends: Z-A*’s customization options aren’t limited by gender either.

A preview from The Verge reveals that *Pokemon Legends: Z-A* will allow players to choose their character’s gender, just like in other *Pokemon* games. However, the game is also including a wide variety of clothing options – like skirts, dresses, and crop tops – that any player can wear, regardless of their chosen gender. This is a positive step for LGBTQIA+ representation in the *Pokemon* series, which has historically been limited, and it also fits well with the Kalos region’s inspiration from real-world fashion and culture.
Lumiose City in Pokemon Legends: Z-A is inspired by Paris, and the Kalos region as a whole draws from France. As a result, fashion and the ability to customize your character’s clothing are major features of the game, just like in real-life Paris and France.
The Lumiose City map in *Pokemon Legends: Z-A* isn’t just a location – it’s filled with shops where players can buy useful items, including tons of new clothes to customize their character. Players can also relax and take amazing photos with the game’s detailed photo mode. Given how much the game’s trailers have focused on character outfits and matching them to different Pokémon, it makes sense that there are so many clothing options available for everyone to use.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Customization Options Are Already Clear

I’m really excited about how much we’ll be able to customize our characters! From what I’ve seen in the official screenshots, it looks like we’ll have several different clothing slots to play around with, including…
- Tops
- Pants and skirts
- Outfits, dresses, and suits
- Hats
- Glasses
- Gloves
- Socks
- Shoes
- Belts
- Earrings
Honestly, the character customization in this game looks amazing! They’ve really upped their game with the hair options – tons of different cuts and colors to choose from. It feels like this could be the best character creator in the whole series. And if I can take pictures whenever and wherever I want, these new Mega Evolutions in *Pokemon Legends: Z-A* aren’t just gonna be awesome for battles, they’ll also give me a ton of inspiration for cool character outfits!
