Pokemon Legends: Z-A Players Discover Shiny Duplication Glitch

A new trick in Pokemon Legends: Z-A lets players create duplicate shiny Pokemon, which is great for trading with friends. Shiny Pokemon are still rare in the game, but this makes it simpler to collect lots of colorful versions.

Even though Mega Evolution is a key feature in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, many players still enjoy the challenge of finding shiny Pokemon. These rare Pokemon have a low encounter rate – only about one in 4,096 – making them difficult to find. However, the game makes shiny hunting a little easier: a shiny Pokemon won’t disappear if you leave the area, faint, or fail to catch it without defeating it in battle.

How To Duplicate Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

  • Locate a shiny Pokemon
  • Draw aggression and run away until it stops following
  • Save, quit, and restart
  • Repeat steps 2 and 3, making sure the shiny Pokemon ends up at least 70 meters from its original spawn point
  • Catch the shiny Pokemon
  • Return to the original spawn point

Shiny hunters in Pokemon Legends: Z-A can use a trick discovered by Austin John Plays to repeatedly encounter the same shiny Pokemon. First, find a shiny, provoke it, and then run away. If no other Pokemon are hostile after the shiny stops chasing you, immediately save and quit the game. When you restart, the shiny will be in the same spot but won’t return to its original location. Repeat this process: provoke the shiny again, lead it at least 70 meters away from where you first found it, and then save, quit, and restart the game.

Once players have followed these steps, they should be able to successfully catch shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. When they return to where the shiny Pokémon originally appeared, they’ll find an identical copy waiting for them—with the same stats, personality, moves, and potential.

Players can potentially use a repeating trick to create unlimited shiny copies of their Pokémon, but it’s best to only keep one of each and trade the extras. The Pokémon Home service can identify cloned Pokémon and will likely delete them, which could cause issues later on. Although Pokémon Home didn’t work with Pokémon Legends: Z-A when it first came out, it’s expected to be compatible by 2026.
