Pokemon Legends Z-A: Shiny Mareep Location

Pokemon Legends Z-A features many optional missions with valuable rewards, and one in particular is highly sought after: a Shiny Mareep. You can earn it by completing Secondary Mission #17, titled ‘A Shiny Mareep?’, which becomes available fairly early in the game.

Players are on the hunt for a rare Pokemon, and many are going to great lengths to try and find a Shiny Mareep. However, the answer might be easier than they realize. This guide explains how to complete the related mission, provides details about Mareep and its evolution, and shows you where to find the Ampharosite needed for its Mega Evolution.

Where to find The Shiny Mareep in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Beginning Secondary Mission #17, “A Shiny Mareep?”, is simple. Players just need to head to Wild Area #1 and speak with a girl named Duve near the entrance. She’ll mention someone saw a Shiny Mareep in the area, but it won’t appear right away. The key is to find a hidden spot on a rooftop – follow these steps to locate it and trigger the encounter.

Make sure you have at least one Quick Ball before starting this optional task. You can purchase them at the Poke Ball Boutique.

Begin by smashing the rocks near the entrance to Wild Area 1 – you may have already done this. Head to the side opposite where Pichu appears, close to a small pond, and look for a ladder.

Climb the first ladder, then look to your right for another one. Climb that second ladder to reach a small terrace where you’ll find a Shiny Mareep. After a short cutscene, the quest will finish automatically. Luckily, the Shiny Mareep stays in the game, so it’s a good idea to quickly save and then use a Quick Ball to catch it.

How to Evolve Ampharos into Mega Ampharos in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Mareep becomes Flaaffy at level 15, and Flaaffy evolves into Ampharos at level 30. To transform Ampharos into its Mega Evolution, Mega Ampharos, players need to equip it with the Ampharosite. You can obtain the Ampharosite by defeating a special Mega Ampharos in Main Mission 23, titled ‘A Rogue Mega Ampharos.’ This allows trainers to Mega Evolve even their Shiny Ampharos, creating a visually striking Shiny Mega Ampharos.

To make Ampharos perform at its best, give it a Modest nature, which increases its Special Attack. The best way to distribute its Effort Values (EVs) is 252 in HP, 252 in Special Attack, and 4 in Speed.

Mega Ampharos is an Electric/Dragon-type Pokémon with a total stat of 610. Its stats are broken down as follows: 90 HP, 95 Attack, 105 Defense, 165 Special Attack, 105 Special Defense, and 45 Speed. To best utilize Mega Ampharos’ significantly increased Special Attack, consider using the following moveset.

  • Power Gem or Dragon Pulse (Coverage)
  • Zap Cannon
  • Thunder
  • Electroweb (Utility, Spe Reduction)

Trainers can further expand Ampharos’s movepool by teaching it Dazzling Gleam (a Fairy-type move) or Focus Blast (a Fighting-type move). This gives Mega Ampharos greater flexibility when battling opponents like other Mega Evolution Pokémon.
