Pokemon Legends Z-A: The World’s Greatest Pikachu Guide (Alpha Pikachu)

It’s surprisingly easy to find an Alpha Pikachu in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. You can encounter a guaranteed Alpha version of this popular Pokemon relatively early in the game.

If you’re trying to catch a shiny Alpha Pikachu – whether for your collection or to help with the tricky battle in the “The World’s Greatest Pikachu” quest – the steps are the same. Here’s how to do it.

How to Get Alpha Pikachu in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, you’re guaranteed to find an Alpha Pikachu on one of the rooftops in the Wild Zone. Look for Cafe Bataille, which is located in the top left corner of Wild Zone 6, right by the northern entrance.

You can reach the top of this building by using the ladder near the battle arena. Once on the roof, look for an Alpha creature between levels 40 and 42 – it’s near the chimneys.

To maximize your chances of catching the Alpha Pikachu quickly, here’s what you can do:

  1. Make a hard save before approaching the Alpha Pikachu so you can immediately reset if you fail to catch it.
  2. Sneak up behind it and throw a Quick Ball while its back is turned.
  3. If unsuccessful, keep throwing Great Balls or Ultra Balls at it.
  4. If it gets angry, defeat it and throw a final Poke Ball as a last try.
  5. If you fail even then, reload and try again.

If the Alpha Pikachu has an undesirable Nature, you can change its Nature’s effects using Mints.

Alpha Pikachu always reappears after you defeat or catch it. This special Pikachu is guaranteed to have three perfect stats, and its health is maximized, making it a very powerful wild Pikachu.

In addition to the regular Pikachu you find in the garden area, there’s a rare chance an Alpha Pikachu will appear. Alpha Pikachu can spawn whenever Wild Zone 3 resets, but it’s much less common – and therefore less efficient to look for – than in Wild Zone 6.

Can You Shiny Hunt Alpha Pikachu in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Yes, it’s possible to find a shiny Alpha Pikachu in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. While Alpha Pikachu always appears, the game doesn’t prevent it from being shiny. If you’re determined and patient, you can encounter a rare, shiny version! Getting the Shiny Charm first is a great idea, as it improves your chances from 1 in 4096 to 1 in 1024.

The World’s Greatest Pikachu Guide in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Side Mission 107, titled “The World’s Greatest Pikachu,” presents a difficult task for trainers. Players must battle and defeat a powerful Pikachu at level 66—which is boosted by holding a Light Ball—using only another Pikachu, and no other Pokémon are allowed in the fight.

You can start Side Mission 107, ‘The World’s Greatest Pikachu,’ after finishing the main story and completing Main Mission 37, ‘Operation Protect Lumiose.’

Here’s what you need to do to complete this mission:

  1. Catch an Alpha Pikachu from .
  2. Give it EXP. Candies and Rare Candies to level it up to level 65+ (or train it up normally with the help of Lucky Egg).
  3. Give it the following move set: Dig, Iron Tail, Quick Attack, Protect.

You can find TM Dig by speaking to the character located right across from the north entrance, a little south of Hotel Richissime.

Battling Pikami’s Pikachu is tough because it has a Light Ball, making a direct win unlikely. You’ll need to use strategy to win. The key is to perfectly time your Dig attack – it’s the only move your Pikachu has that’s super effective against another Pikachu.

Pikami’s Pikachu also knows the Dig attack, and it’s powerful enough to knock out your Pikachu in one hit if it connects. The best ways to avoid this are to use Dig yourself, or use the Protect move.

How to Beat Pikami’s Pikachu

The plan is straightforward: let your opponent’s Pikachu use Dig, and then immediately use Dig with your own Pikachu while theirs is still digging. This will send your Pikachu underground after theirs, making it safe from attacks for a short time.

If Pikachu uses Dig first, it will always lose the attack exchange, so it’s best to wait. If you anticipate the opponent’s Dig, use Protect right before it lands to avoid taking damage.

While Dig is recharging, frequently use Iron Tail and Quick Attack to inflict small amounts of damage. Once Dig is ready, wait for Pikami’s Pikachu to use it again, then repeat this strategy.

After Pikami and his Pikachu are defeated, he will offer you the following rewards:

  • 7,000 Poke Dollars
  • Light Ball x1
  • Exp. Candy L x3
