While Pokemon Legends: Z-A won’t receive more DLC expansions after Mega Dimension, the game is still being updated with new features and rewards for ranked battles. Season 5 offered the Mega Stone for Sceptile, and next week Season 6 will begin, adding Mega Swampert as a reward. Plus, a recent update addresses a long-standing issue that players have been asking for, so those still enjoying the Mega Dimension DLC will find it even better.
A recent update to Pokemon Legends: Z-A addressed a key issue with shiny Pokemon hunting by removing the ability to manipulate spawn points, which could create uncertainty with future updates. However, all updates have focused on improving the game. Patch 2.0.1 finally removes a limit on Mega Shards, a problem that existed since the game’s release and became more noticeable with the downloadable content. This fix addresses a long-standing frustration for players.
- Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Mega Shards are required to purchase Mega Stones from Quasartico Inc. during the story, with Mega Stones unlocking gradually as you progress through the campaign. However, the cost varies from 180 to 360 Mega Shards, meaning you could never purchase three or more of the more expensive ones due to the 999 cap on Mega Shards.
- Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s TM NPC in the DLC sells a bunch of new TMs for Mega Shards, with the cost ranging from 360 to 540, making it very difficult to purchase multiple TMs, both due to the limit on Mega Shards and the fact that you could only ever get two at the same time, no matter the cost.
- In order to get Genesect in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, you have to buy all four Drives from this same NPC, with each costing 540 Mega Shards. With the 999 cap, you could never buy two Drives at the same time.
- This NPC also sells Feathers for the various stats in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and each costs 60 Mega Shards. Considering that a single Feather is mostly going to be useless, as you’ll need an even number to improve a Pokemon’s stats, you will typically need 120 for two Feathers, if not multiples of that number.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Finally Raises The Mega Shards Cap to 9,999
The latest update to Pokemon Legends: Z-A (patch 2.0.1) significantly increased the Mega Shard storage limit from 999 to 9,999. This is a major convenience for players, especially when exploring Hyperspace Wild Areas repeatedly. Previously, you’d frequently need to return to Quasartico Inc. or the NPC in Wild Zone 17 to exchange your Mega Shards for items like Mega Stones, TMs, Genesect Drives, or Feathers. Now, you can collect a much larger amount before needing to make that trip.
This update makes the game more enjoyable for both new and returning players. Collecting Mega Shards will be much easier, as you can store more of them before needing to trade them in, without the frustrating limit of 999. Plus, if you’ve completed Pokemon Legends: Z-A, including the DLC, and already obtained all TMs and Genesect, Feathers remain a cost-effective way to maximize your Pokémon’s EVs compared to buying vitamins at Pokémon Centers.
Why Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s New Mega Shard Cap is Good Even if You’ve Beaten The Game
Hyperspace Wild Areas can give you a good amount of Mega Shards – around 200 for a small one. Larger areas give you even more, letting you collect as many as you need and trade them for Feathers or other useful items. Players have been asking for an increased Mega Shard limit since the game launched, and while it might not help those who’ve already finished the main content, it’s still beneficial. Building truly powerful teams in Pokemon Legends: Z-A takes time and resources, and you’ll need plenty of Bottle Caps, Mints, vitamins, or Feathers – even after completing everything else.
