Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC May Be Hiding Two Mega Evolutions in Plain Sight

While Pokemon Legends: Z-A isn’t flawless, it significantly enhances Mega Evolution, a popular Pokemon feature. Mega Evolution returns with new forms and has been adapted for the game’s real-time battles. The upcoming Mega Dimension DLC will add even more Mega Evolutions, though most haven’t been revealed yet, aside from Raichu’s. However, the DLC might have already hinted at the most important new Mega Evolutions: those for the Pokemon Hoopa.

It’s expected that Pokemon Legends: Z-A will include downloadable content featuring Hoopa, a popular Mythical Pokemon from Generation 6. Hoopa’s ability to manipulate dimensions gives the developers, Game Freak, a lot of freedom in creating new areas to explore. While not officially announced, a Mega Evolution for Hoopa seems likely, as other Legendary Pokemon have received this transformation. Interestingly, Hoopa could potentially have two Mega Evolutions, one for each of its forms: Hoopa Confined and Hoopa Unbound.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Can Give Hoopa the Best of Both Worlds in the Mega Dimension DLC

Hoopa is one of the special Legendary and Mythical Pokémon that can change forms, similar to Pokémon like Deoxys, Meloetta, Zacian, and Zamazenta. When Hoopa changes forms, its type also changes – it’s Psychic and Ghost as its Confined form, and Psychic and Dark as its Unbound form. Each form also has its own unique move: Confined Hoopa uses Hyperspace Hole, while Unbound Hoopa uses Hyperspace Fury. Because of these moves and how their types match up against opponents, both forms of Hoopa can be effective in battle, even though the Unbound form generally has higher stats than the Confined form.

There’s no official word yet, but Game Freak might change Hoopa’s stats to make its two forms more balanced.

As a huge Pokémon fan, I think the coolest thing Game Freak could do is give both Hoopa forms a Mega Evolution! Since they’re forms and not separate evolutions, it totally fits that both could Mega Evolve. We’ve already seen how Mega Charizard and Mega Mewtwo had two different forms, so why not Mega Hoopa X and Y? If they were to release DLC focused on Mega Evolution and Hoopa, it would be amazing if those two things were connected somehow!

Introducing Mega Evolution for Hoopa does raise some practical questions. For example, it seems strange to Mega Evolve Hoopa Confined, considering its design focuses on it being a limited form. It’s also unclear if Pokemon Legends: Z-A would require separate Mega Stones for each Hoopa form, or if they’d use a single stone for both. However, I think these challenges actually offer exciting creative opportunities. Mega Hoopa Confined could show the Pokemon struggling against its restraints, highlighting the immense power of its Unbound form, while Mega Hoopa Unbound could be even more powerful. Ultimately, these could lead to some really interesting designs.

Hoopa’s Role is Just One Mystery About the Mega Dimension DLC

After playing Pokemon Legends: Z-A, I’ve been thinking about whether Hoopa will receive a Mega Evolution in the Mega Dimension DLC. The main game didn’t really focus on Zygarde, so I’m wondering if this DLC will make Hoopa a key companion from the start, letting players access Mega Hoopa Confined fairly soon. This could then build excitement for unlocking Mega Hoopa Unbound later on. It’s hard to say exactly what Game Freak has planned to highlight the return of Mega Evolution until the DLC is released.
