A new trailer for the ‘Mega Dimension’ downloadable content for Pokemon Legends: Z-A has been released, and it appears the game is set to change a long-standing Pokemon series tradition. With the 30th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise approaching in 2026, rumors about the next generation of games (Generation 10), potentially titled Pokemon Wind and Wave, have already begun to circulate. While official details about Generation 10 are still under wraps, fans are currently focused on Pokemon Legends: Z-A and its highly anticipated Mega Dimension DLC.
The Mega Dimension DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A arrives on December 10th, and it will introduce several new Mega Evolutions. We already knew about Mega Raichu X and Y, but a new trailer revealed Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur, confirming earlier leaks from when the game first launched. However, the trailer also revealed a surprise not mentioned in those original leaks: for the first time in the Pokemon series, players will be able to train their Pokemon beyond level 100.
Say Hello to a New Level Cap in Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC
Throughout the Pokémon series, Pokémon have traditionally reached a maximum level of 100. This will also be true for the 230 Pokémon available in the Pokedex of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. However, the new Mega Dimension DLC introduces some exceptions. Players have discovered Alpha Corviknight at level 120, a wild Alpha Annihilape at level 142, and an Alpha Aurorus reaching an impressive level 150, suggesting that some Pokémon in this DLC can exceed the usual level cap.
Right now, it’s unknown if this refers to the levels of wild Pokémon you’ll encounter and battle – similar to how Pokémon Legends: Z-A‘s Zygarde battle goes up to level 84 – or if it means the Pokémon themselves can actually be level 100 or higher. Even if it’s just a way to make battles harder, this is the first time the Pokémon series has ever included Pokémon of this level.
It’s very likely that the special Alpha Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be around level 100 or higher, and that all Pokémon in the game will be able to exceed the usual level cap of 100. This idea is supported by a recent tweet from well-known Pokémon leaker Riddler Khu, who correctly predicted the appearance of Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur just before the game’s trailer was released, and also mentioned the possibility of levels beyond 100.
How Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s New DLC Level Cap Could Impact Gen 10
The new Mega Dimension DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A has broken a long-standing rule in the series, and now players are wondering just how far the developers will go. This change could even extend to future Pokemon games (Generation 10), potentially allowing players to encounter wild Pokemon with levels exceeding 100. While we’ll have to wait and see what happens, recent leaks about procedural generation in Gen 10 suggest that high-level wild Pokemon are a real possibility.
