In the upcoming game, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it’s been hinted that some unexpected Pokémons might gain Mega Evolutions. The downside of certain Pokémons getting Megas is that they could suffer from a pattern seen in the series, known as the Mega Evolution curse, where they miss out on a chance for a new regional evolution in a future game. Nevertheless, there are four leaked Mega Evolutions for Pokemon Legends: Z-A that might shatter this trend, although not in the usual manner.
In the upcoming game Pokemon Legends: Z-A, most of the creatures rumored to gain Mega Evolutions will undeniably profit from this transformation. Mega Evolution significantly enhances a Pokemon’s stats, transforming even weaker Pokemon into competitive prospects once they Mega Evolve. However, it is unfortunate that Pokemon who haven’t evolved completely before obtaining a Mega form may face disadvantages in future generations if they are unable to achieve a standard regional evolution.
Even if Evolutions for These Leaked Pokemon Legends: Z-A Megas are Unlikely, They Can Still Break the Curse
4 Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Leaked Mega Evolutions Are Single-Stage Mons
Among the Megas revealed for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, just four monsters don’t have any form of evolution yet. These are:
From the leaked Megas in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, only four monsters haven’t evolved before. They are:
- Skarmory
- Falinks
- Drampa
- Hawlucha
Instead of suggesting Mega forms for these solid creatures to elevate them to elite battlers, a better approach might be to provide them with permanent regional evolutions. This way, they could continue to remain significant in battles even without the need for Mega Evolution. Previously, monsters like Mawile and Kangaskhan, who had Mega forms, became overpowered but eventually fell back into obscurity when Mega Evolution was eliminated in Generation 8.

In other words, Zygarde can undergo Mega Evolution, just like many others, but given its status as a legendary Pokemon with multiple forms, it seems improbable that it will evolve further in upcoming generations.
In the game Pokemon Legends: Z-A, when creatures undergo Mega Evolution, they effectively bypass any potential regional evolutions in the future because Mega Evolution elevates these fully-evolved Pokemon beyond their typical power levels. Although Mega Evolution boosts these monsters’ stats, their base stats (when not Mega Evolved) place them between 465-500, which is roughly equivalent to a mid-stage evolution. Consequently, these creatures might profit from a standard evolution in a future installment of the game, but there exists an alternative means to lift the Mega Evolution restriction for them.
Pre-Evolutions Could Allow These Critters to Break the Mega Evolution Curse

Instead of being ruled out for new Megas due to traditional evolution methods, these four single-stage creatures could potentially serve as candidates for progenitor evolutions in future games. A progenitor evolution would enable their Mega form to persist without contradicting the established narrative of the Mega Evolution system, while also providing an opportunity for these creatures to receive permanent stat upgrades. Unlike a regular evolution, a progenitor evolution doesn’t directly enhance a monster’s stats, but it provides a reason for slightly increasing its base stat total.

Boosting a total stat base of 50 points could make these four monsters comparable in power to two-stage evolutions like Arcanine and Lucario. Monsters such as Skarmory and Drampa, which have been frequently discussed as potential pre-evolutions due to their origins in Generation 2 when baby Pokémon were introduced, might not receive these pre-evolutions in the upcoming game “Pokemon Legends: Z-A,” given whispers that it won’t introduce any new creatures beyond Mega forms. However, the foundation for future generations to incorporate both pre-evolutions and Mega Evolutions for these monsters could be established through their handling in “Legends: Z-A.
